[Xion turns the video feed on. It's midday and her hood is back up, but she's sitting outside on a bench across the street from the phone booth.]

Thank you... whoever found the antidote. That was... close. At least, it felt like it.

[She lets out a slow exhale.]

Anyway... I think I found the source of the ringing. [She turns her CAT so it catches sight of the phone booth.] There's a phone in there that's going off all the time. But when I picked it up, all I heard was beeping. When I hung up, it started ringing again.

[She turns the CAT around again.] Did... Anyone else get that message? [She fiddles with her CAT to find the text, and then she reads it aloud.] "No time to talk. Find the booth, don't get caught. Come between midnight and one. More to come later."

... pretty straight-forward. But with that curfew... [Xion frowns.]

But I think it's important. This is like the music inside the greenhouse. It's not going to just go away. [She pauses, then mutters bitterly:] Not yet, anyway.

[She shakes her head.] The regular people can't hear the phone or see the booth. Whatever is going on... It's up to us to figure it out.

Oh, once is just fine enough for me. [moves to stand before the dark corridor, reaching back to pull the collar of his long coat over his head. he figures there must be some reason for Xion to wear a hood, and perhaps this is it]

Well, here I go. Catch me up! [steps into the corridor and keeps on going until he reaches the end]

[The entrance to the corridor looks almost like a whirlpool, tall and almost egg-shaped and churning black and purple, and the inside of it doesn't look much different, with the swirling darkness forming the solid ground and the walls of the tunnel. The corridor seems to stretch on forever.

Xion enters in close behind him.] This way. And stay close.

[She seems to have no trouble navigating it, seeming to instinctively know where to go. After a surprisingly short moment, she holds out her arm and an exit forms -- the same height and shape as the entrance, but it opens out to her room.]

[stays with Xion all the way through, then steps out into a room pretty much identical to his own--though he highly doubts Xion has a spare suit hanging up in the closet.

turns back to regard the dark corridor portal and nods his approval after he lets his coat drop back down to its proper position] Ohhh, just like I thought. Very handy indeed!

So. Shall we stay here or head on out to the living room?

... either way. I guess... the living room would be more comfortable for you.

Um. Do you... want anything to drink? [She thinks that's what you're supposed to say when you have someone over into your house. She doesn't know; she's never done this before.]

The living room it is! [makes a beeline for it, settling himself down on the couch]

Thanks, but I'm good. You can grab something if you'd like.

[Xion shakes her head.] No... I'm okay.

[She sits down on a chair, hands in her lap and fidgeting with her fingers a little.] I...

... I don't... really know where to start.

The beginning is usually a good place to start. Or right in the middle! It'd all be the beginning to me no matter how I look at it because it'd be the first time I'm learning of it.

The beginning... [Xion takes a moment to turn things over in her mind to figure out just what the beginning is.]

So... The Heartless. They're... made out of the darkness in people's hearts. Everyone's got light and darkness in their hearts, right? And when someone's heart is stolen... A Heartless is made from the darkness in their heart.

Huh, you don't say... What about the light? What happens to it?

... I don't know. Nobody ever told me. Maybe... it goes back to Kingdom Hearts.

Interesting name for a kingdom. Wouldn't happen to border the kingdoms of Spades, Clubs, and Diamonds, would it? [holds a hand up] No, don't answer that.

Continue about the Heartless. You've mentioned them before. Why steal someone's heart, never mind stealing the metaphysical version and not the actual one that runs your cardiovascular system?

I... No, it's not an actual kingdom. It's just... It's complicated. I'm not even sure if I understand it. There's a lot I don't...

[pause] I don't know. They just... do. Heartless, they don't have souls, so they just act on instinct. They must just be drawn to people's hearts. Maybe... They're drawn to the light.

Like a moth to a flame...

Is that why you're fighting them? To prevent them from stealing more hearts?

... [Xion shakes her head.]] I... I wish that was it.

But when I was... young... very young, I -- didn't know anything. I was just... ... [Xion takes a deep breath. It's okay. She doesn't necessarily need to tell him that yet.

She holds out her hand to summon the Keyblade.] If I kill Heartless with this, then it releases the hearts they're made of. And... that was my job. This coat -- It's the uniform of the -- Organization that I worked for. It helps keep me safe from the darkness, and... My job was to collect hearts.

I had a feeling the coat was just more than a fashion statement. So, you collected the hearts the Heartless took to...give them back to their owners?

To create Kingdom Hearts. Or... the doorway to it.

Kingdom Hearts, it's... The heart of all worlds. [Sora's memories rise up, becoming easier to grasp.] It's both light and dark. All hearts are born there, and... All hearts go back there, in the end.

[nods] I see. A sort of heaven-esque type place, a Nirvana of sorts, then--if I'm understanding you correctly.

And, since I'm probably on a very good trend of understanding what you're telling me, then you also mean that you travelled to different places collecting these hearts, fighting the Heartless along the way, right? And that's why you didn't normally do any sightseeing--or is there even more to this?

Right. The Organization sent me to different worlds to fight Heartless and collect hearts, to make... Kingdom Hearts. And it had to be me -- me and my best friend Roxas. Because we were the only ones who could use the Keyblade, and only a Keyblade can release hearts.

Roxas? I met someone named Roxas here. Seemed to be a bit...tetchy. Probably had a bad day.

So you're the only two who can use it, though, huh? Why is that?

You... did? [She sounds... frightened.]

... It's because, we... [We're connected to Sora.] The Keyblade... It chooses who wields it.

Yeah, but it was a brief conversation. Something about a woman with a screeching voice. It was all sixes and sevens to me. [shrugs casually]

Ohhh, did it really...? But it chose two of you, so either it really liked you both--or it was trying to decide. Or, well, those seem like the two most likely scenarios. Maybe it was just finicky, or a poly-swordsmen practitioner.

Larxene... [Xion ducks her head briefly, fidgeting with the ends of her sleeves. She takes in the rest of what he has to say, but whereas she might've smiled at the concept of the Keyblade being finicky, she... Under the circumstances, she can't. She just can't.]

It's because -- We never... I should never have... [My Keyblade is not a sham!

When Xion speaks again, her voice is small, weak. Lost.]

... it's all such a mess...

[leans forward, his voice gentle and hopefully encouraging] Xion, how is it a mess?

Roxas shouldn't be here. [Those are the first words out of her mouth. The ones she doesn't want to say.] He shouldn't be here because he -- he...

Because in your time, he's gone, right? There's someone here from my past who shouldn't be alive either.
