[Xion turns the video feed on. It's midday and her hood is back up, but she's sitting outside on a bench across the street from the phone booth.]

Thank you... whoever found the antidote. That was... close. At least, it felt like it.

[She lets out a slow exhale.]

Anyway... I think I found the source of the ringing. [She turns her CAT so it catches sight of the phone booth.] There's a phone in there that's going off all the time. But when I picked it up, all I heard was beeping. When I hung up, it started ringing again.

[She turns the CAT around again.] Did... Anyone else get that message? [She fiddles with her CAT to find the text, and then she reads it aloud.] "No time to talk. Find the booth, don't get caught. Come between midnight and one. More to come later."

... pretty straight-forward. But with that curfew... [Xion frowns.]

But I think it's important. This is like the music inside the greenhouse. It's not going to just go away. [She pauses, then mutters bitterly:] Not yet, anyway.

[She shakes her head.] The regular people can't hear the phone or see the booth. Whatever is going on... It's up to us to figure it out.

I think you might actually be right... If we're going to get whatever's in that booth, we're going to have to break curfew. [Luckily, Cissie's used to sneaking around adult figures without a problem.]

It's either that, or let that thing ruin our sleep for a while.

No kidding. ... Still, I can't help thinking that the person's a total sadist. I mean, calling at midnight?

Yeah. It's pretty late... But, I think it might be worth it.

[off-screen, the Doctor has already been to the phone booth after midnight, so the ringing sound is no longer a problem--but he is mildly surprised to learn someone can still hear it. conveniently enough, he's passing by that area of town and spots Xion from down the street. he's riding his bike, so he won't be surprising Xion this time around]

[rings a bell on the bike's handlebars to get her attention] Hello Xion! Feeling better now are you?

[Xion looks up at the sound of the bell, blinking.]

Oh... Hi, Doctor. [So maybe she still goes just a tad shy around him. She can't help it; he's been so nice to her and she doesn't want to jeopardize that kindness somehow.] Yeah... I'm feeling a lot better.

Glad to hear it. [pulls to a stop, swinging a leg over the bicycle when he's near and takes a seat beside her on the bench]

So! Still hearing that telephone ringing, are you?

[Still?] Yeah.

Well, if you wanted it to stop, all you need to do is listen to the instructions in the text message. You can use that tunnel of darkness thing, right? That ought to help you avoid getting noticed by the deputies. [he spots one near the library and waves jovially, a cheeky smile on his face]

But. [returns his attentions to Xion and discreetly hands her a pair of strange sunglasses that he had in his pocket.] Just in case, you'll want to wear these.

It's called... a corridor of darkness.

[She blinks at what he handed her.] Sunglasses...?

[waves a hand dismissively] Accomplishes the same thing, really.

Yep! Right in one. If you wear them at night, you won't be seen by the deputies. I even danced a jig in front of one and he didn't even bat an eyelid or anything.

Sunglasses... at night...? [Who would ever think of such a thing?

But after a pause, she nods, tucking the sunglasses into her side coat pocket.] Thank you.

You're welcome! I wouldn't recommend traipsing through the park with them on, though.

But it is curious... This cloaked telephone booth and now the sunglasses. I wonder if the text message we received is connected to those notes we found in the botanical gardens.

... I wouldn't be surprised. There's... a lot in common, between this and that.

Oh, no doubt about that. Yet another sound, yet another vessel that contains a message for us. It's just about as thematic as the lions around here. [pulls out the box of chocolate-covered cherries, offering the opened box to her] Would you like one?

I wonder who they're all from, and why they're sending... [She blinks.] Huh?

And more importantly, why? Guilty conscience? [takes one himself, popping it into his mouth.] Got these as a gift from the Mayor's office. [swallows it] I'm not going to eat them all, so I thought I'd share.

[=x] Thank you. [She takes one, but hesitates before eating it. Can't really blame her for being wary.]

I don't know. It might... not be from someone in charge of the town. Or someone who used to. I don't get that feeling. Maybe they're someone who escaped. Or... something.

Don't worry, I examined them thoroughly. No sign of nanotechnology in these or anything harmful.

Escaped? Hmm. Hadn't really given that one much thought, to be honest. After all, if you'd escaped, why hang around?

[Nano... technology?]

Maybe... to help the next people.

That's not terribly optimistic of them, is it? Thinking they can escape only to doom another batch of people to the same fate.

... hmmmm. [Xion brings her hand up to her cheek, thinking.]

[swivels in his seat to face Xion a bit better] What would you?

... [Xion slowly lowers her hand back into her lap.] I... [She clasps her hands together.] There's someone... who's depending on me, back home. A lot of people. They'd be... sad. If I don't go back. And there's... something... important that I have to do. Someone important... [Her voice tapers off.]

[But after a moment, she looks up.] But if it wasn't for that -- If I knew someone was going to get stuck here... I couldn't just leave. No... Even with that, I couldn't just abandon them.
