θ-10 Come one, come all!

[As soon as the sun as set, Doctor John Smith is up in a grassy area somewhere off near the malt shop, with a peculiar setup before him. But...those who know a thing or two about pyrotechnics will know exactly what he's about to do.]

[He turns his CAT on, a big, broad and excited grin on his face]

Hellooooooooooooo Luministi!!! It's that time of year again, and as always, the Mayor has asked me to kick off the celebration with a little display. [there's a mischievous twinkle in her eye] Not even Soph knows what I've got planned this year, so! I think it's about time I show you!

[He shuts the CAT off, and there is nothing for a few moments...

...but then, there's a high-pitched whine followed by an explosion of colour! One after another, fireworks shoot up into the air, and the good doc has not skimped on them. There are ones that change colors, shoot up into different formations, some that even transform from one shape to another.

The display will go on for a good hour, but while those are going on, the festivities have officially started! Parties in the town square with food, game, and drinking booths will go on. The rides are up in full force. There's even dancing going on in the southern shopping plaza area as well as the botanical gardens. Everything the mayor mentioned and more is there for everyone to partake in.]

[He'll head to the booths later, but for now Hawk's up on a rooftop, watching the fireworks, legs dangling over the side. He's up for company, or being dragged down- but the booths'll be around a bit longer.]

[Ichijou is looking more like a misplaced wedding attendee than an average reveller. This year his outfit is just as - if not more feminine: a well-tailored strapless deep-purple dress which ruffles from the waist down and has a bright red bow at the hip, (noisy) high-heeled shoes, white nail polish, a sparkling golden bracelet, and hair pulled up into an elegant but simple French twist.

Despite all that formality, he's still meandering about admiring the fireworks while contentedly lapping at some obscenely sweet frozen dessert. Of course with all the looking up, it's kind of hard to miss Hawk hiding out up there. His voice is cheerful and sing-songish:]

Haaaaawk, you do know that the festival's down here, right?

[Although Kon's parents are manning the booth over in the botanical gardens, Kon thought it'd be a pretty good idea if the Talon brewed coffee for some of the other booths too.

He's in the town square, eagerly passing out goodies to those who want some---though if he gets the chance, he's definitely sneaking out. Kon really doesn't want to work here longer than he has to.]

this will be so weird not using honorifics. Also, let's go with the name of Leaf for this event XD

[Croix makes his way over... holding a little stuffed bear in one hand that he managed to win at one of the game stations for, you know, whichever girl he ended up bringing to this festival that, coincidentally, isn't here right now.]

Oh, of course the people at the Mayor's office would never forget to send out the request for your services to make the town beautiful on this day.

[Doctor John Smith, still very much being, well, himself, doesn't see this as a slight in the very least!]

Naturally, yes! What'd you think, Seiya? How'd they look from your part of town?

[Where there's food, there's Jamie. Since he's inbetween sets, he's currently taking the opportunity to visit the ice-cream booth the people at the Malt Shop are running - although he seems a wee bit more interested in the cute girl who is working there rather than the food itself. Doesn't mean that he won't take the time to chat with anyone else who's wandering by, though. You just may have to ask him to move if you want ice-cream, that's all.]

[and where there's ice cream, there's bound to eventually be terezi. she's already excited by the many different colors and is bouncing on the balls of her feet, giggling some here and there.]

Looks like no one got hurt in the tasty explosions! They really did a good job this year, I think. Which makes me wonder if any of the stuff here is just as good as the light show!

[Somehow, Kon's managed to find the time to head over to the Malt Shop... if only to deliver extra cookies to the owners. Noticing Jaime immediately, he grins.]

Xion pops up at Jamie's elbow right at the moment he's especially distracted by the cute girl working the stand.]

[Mu's booth is currently being tended to by one luminescent Kanaya Maryam. The booth has a number of eye-catching jewelry and accessories on display, begging to be examined up close. Meanwhile, Kanaya is watching the festivities float on by from her place behind the counter, perking whenever a potential customer comes near and dimming when they drift away.

Either way, anyone looking for her should be able to pick out her soft glow in the dark.]

hmm, naturally, terezi begins to examine the jewelry up close. only the red ones though, and she maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay have licked one of them. maybe.]

[Naturally, Ichijou can't resist the allure of sparkly things, and neither can he resist looking for Mu. His niece's (well, nephew to most people, but in actuality Ichijou views Xion more like a daughter than anything) pleasant glowing friend is acceptable too.

He sashays over and leans on the counter, taking up entirely too much room.]

Does he really have you working during the festival?

[And clicks his tongue in disapproval.]

I do hope you're getting paid a nice bonus for that.

[once the fireworks have ceased, Doctor John Smith, makes his way past all the booths, but the soft glow does catch his eye] Hullo there! [of course, the shiny bits and bobs also catch his eye.] What have we got here, then, eh? [he smiles warmly, eagerly awaiting her answer]

[Sophie stops by the booth, looking over the jewelery with a professional eye] Goodness, I think you've outdone yourselves this year. Which of these are yours? [she picks up a necklace with a stone of lapis lazuli to take a closer look]

[Mu actually puts in an appearance about 15 minutes after the fireworks, with a thermos bag over one shoulder, and a box full of replacements for the display.]

I thought you might appreciate a hot meal by now. How have things been?

[Mu's booth is one that Xion actively seeks out. How could she not?]

Hey, Kanaya! How's booth duty going?

[Croix had originally come to the festivities with the girl who mans the ticket counter on weekends at the theatre, but she's flitted off to go do this, that or the other and asked Croix to wait for her in the meanwhile. And to watch her stuff. So, Croix's sitting on a bench near the booths. ... With a purple purse. And a teddy bear. And a bag of popcorn. And a stick of cotton candy. And a balloon.

Anyway point is, he's by himself for now, but he looks content enough. Besides, he has some awesome fireworks to watch while he waits! And he's certainly not against company.]

[She can't come up and talk to him, but Kanaya stares at Croix from her place at Mu's booth with no expression. Is she judging? Making assumptions about his masculinity??

Really, she's just admiring his purse and perfectly fluffy cotton candy.]

He spots Vriska though, and he waves.]

[Well, his original plan was to grab some food and join in the dancing, but fireworks. ... Wow, fireworks. Those are really distracting.

At least he managed to grab a snack, but now he's wandering aimlessly about in what he hopes is the southern plaza (which is actually in the opposite direction, whoops), attention focused only on the sky.

[Oh. Oh no. Kids wandering off isn't a good thing! Ichijou wants to directly approach Willis to firstly ask him why he seems to be leaving the festival and secondly tell him to watch where the hell he's going, but he also doesn't want to seem like some kind of creepy predator. Of course in his attempts to be subtle he's probably being even creepier than he would have if he wasn't trying to be stealthy.

He cups his hands around his mouth and shouts in Willis's direction.]

[Sophie is staring at the sky in surprise] John! How did you manage to set up all this? You never said a word!

[and he isn't usually so good at being mum about his surprises]

[he smiles easily at her, coming over and slipping an arm around her shoulders]

Oh come on, Soph! It'd ruin all the fun if I told you exactly what I was doing!

Oh! [he points up into the sky] You're just in time for this one! [a few fireworks shoot up into the sky and burst apart, forming shapes similar to flowers] I made those just for you.

[Fireworks! Xion isn't surprised at all that her uncle created such a fantastic display; it's just his style, after all, and he always does a good job.

She came down to the festival because she always does. She can never resist the fair food, especially all the ice cream flavors. As usual, she ponders winning herself a stuffed animal in one of the game booths, but, as usual, she decides against it and wanders along, nomming on her ice cream. She figures she'll stay out for an hour or two, then head back home to finish working on her project. She wants to hand them out soon...

So! Have a Xion wandering throughout the festival. She may or may not be paying attention to where she's walking, but she is most definitely going to be found with ice cream in hand.]

[she easily steps to the side when she smells her coming, holding and licking her own ice cream.]

Hi Xion! It's smells to me that we both happened to have gone to the same place.

Isn't it great for us hard workers to party for a little bit at least?
