θ-10 Come one, come all!

[As soon as the sun as set, Doctor John Smith is up in a grassy area somewhere off near the malt shop, with a peculiar setup before him. But...those who know a thing or two about pyrotechnics will know exactly what he's about to do.]

[He turns his CAT on, a big, broad and excited grin on his face]

Hellooooooooooooo Luministi!!! It's that time of year again, and as always, the Mayor has asked me to kick off the celebration with a little display. [there's a mischievous twinkle in her eye] Not even Soph knows what I've got planned this year, so! I think it's about time I show you!

[He shuts the CAT off, and there is nothing for a few moments...

...but then, there's a high-pitched whine followed by an explosion of colour! One after another, fireworks shoot up into the air, and the good doc has not skimped on them. There are ones that change colors, shoot up into different formations, some that even transform from one shape to another.

The display will go on for a good hour, but while those are going on, the festivities have officially started! Parties in the town square with food, game, and drinking booths will go on. The rides are up in full force. There's even dancing going on in the southern shopping plaza area as well as the botanical gardens. Everything the mayor mentioned and more is there for everyone to partake in.]

He sighs, shakes his head and looks back up at her with an embarrassed smile.]

It's not mine! [... Hopefully they're close enough to properly speak. Or she can read lips. Or something.]

Tiffany's! [The girl who works the ticket counter at the theatre on weekends.] She's... uh... somewhere else right now!

[... You know what? Forget this yelling thing. He gathers up all the stuff and heads toward Kanaya! ... This of course mean he now has a balloon tied to his wrist, a purse on his shoulder, a bear in one hand and a bag of popcorn in the other. Hopefully he won't trip...]

That's better. [Faint smile!] Hi.

Hi. [That is much better. She rearranges displays on the counter to make room, if he wants to put something down.]

I think I know who that is. [Such is the power of reading name tags.] Are you on a date?

[Name tag reading - best superpower. And he does indeed take advantage, gently setting down the popcorn and the purse.]

Yeah, I am. [His smile is both a little, teensy bit sappy and a little bit embarrassed. ♥] It's a huge festival, and it's always better to share it with someone.

[Heehee. A sappy boyfriend is always the cutest. And has she mentioned that she's a huge romantic?]

Have you been dating for a while? How did you ask her out?

Actually, she beat me to it and asked me to come here with her. [He sounds amused.] If she had just waited a few more minutes, I would have asked instead. And we've gone on a few dates before this, but not many. So, about two months, I guess.

[Sigh, that sounds so nice.

But enough daydreaming, Maryam!! You're on the clock here.]

Does that mean you've had your two-month anniversary already?

Not yet. Next week. [Pause, while he thinks...] Unless that first date didn't count. [Slight laugh] It started out a little complicated...

[But he's looking at the wares in the booth, because now that she's mentioned it, he should probably get her something for said anniversary. Right?] Is there a two-month anniversary tradition?

I don't think so, but she will probably enjoy the sentiment. I think something simple would suffice... unless you intend to get serious about it.

No, you're right. Something simple would be best. [And he looks to the things she's selling, considering...]

What about a hairpin? Do you have anything in violet? It's her favorite color.

[She puts a finger to her chin, thinking. That's rather specific, but there might be something... She disappears for a moment as she searches a box and... ah, there it is.]

Violet may not be the most accurate descriptor, but we do have this.

Hey, that's perfect! [He smiles.] How much is it?

[Beep goes the scanner, and then she hands his CAT back. The ornament goes into a little gift box, which is tied shut with a ribbon.]

I hope she enjoys it. Be careful not to lose it under everything else. [Meaning all of his baggage, of course.]

I think she'll like it. [He smiles!] And I hope my luck isn't so bad that I'd lose it before she gets back here...
