❧ ...Until someone loses an eye

[randomly in the southern lawn of the town square, a silver view finder appears. pretty innocent looking, isn't it? and in actuality, it really is! only...what it shows might not be so innocent... nonetheless, observers will notice that the remaining residents who haven't been turned into dolls yet walk past it without noticing it at all. how odd.

a few minutes after its appearance, an unregistered CAT device sends an audio message to only the new residents, but those with keen ears will notice that the voice distortion is pitched a bit higher than normal. strange. the message goes as follows:]

Things are falling apart faster than I expected, so I can finally utilize this device while everyone is distracted. Use those prizes I gave you to get a glimpse of the truth! Thought you'd also like to know that he is safe and at home with his family far, far away from here. But please keep each other safe and beware R--

[the message, unfortunately, cuts off there...]

[ooc: Remember those gold coins embossed with the image of a lion and a sun? It seems someone has had something planned for them this entire time. Good thing you can recover it with your stolen item! Of course, there are some residents who can get one coin and others with two. Those with two will be able to use the view finder twice. Oddly enough, the view finder only will let you look at things in the four cardinal directions, and once you pick the direction, you can't move the view finder. So! Comment here ICly with the direction you wish to look at. Those of you with two coins can comment twice so we can let you know what you will see with your second choice. If you wish to comment/ask a question OOCly, you can as well!

Oh, and as a note, after you have used your coin(s) and return home, you will find that the lion paperweight has moved to a different location in your townhome. How or why that happened, well...you'll see soon enough...]

Not at all. We can go get them now if you like.

[Grins back!] My pleasure. If we're going to get out of this, we need to look out for each other! And... you may call me Fuu, if you like. Everyone else here does. [It's unusual, but she's kind of gotten used to it.]

[As she gets up from the bench she nods.] And speaking of keeping everyone safe, I have even more to tell you. Shall we make the best of our walk to my home?

[ooc: Although this is getting close to not a bad place to 'end', we can certainly keep going for as long as you like! (I can seriously go on forever if you let me XD)]

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-18 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
[nods] I'd like that.

All right, then. Fuu. [not so much used to diminutives, but it's definitely easier to say.

He stands up as well, shaking out his wrists and hands.]
That sounds like a plan.

[ooc: I think the conversation would probably be good. I'm not quite sure where to end things, but I'm happy to follow your lead.]

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Fuu sets out at a relaxed pace for home. There's no rush, and it will give her ample time to tell Mister Hawk even more about the events of the past couple months. She feels like her voice is going to sound strange from all the whispering, but there is no helping it.]

Just after the nanobot poisoning, we were finally given a very useful message by our benefactor. "Someone in town is lying and not who they appear to be. The poison was just the start of the trials to come. Keep each other safe and never forget who you are!"
[She goes on to briefly describe how the anonymous CAT message had come at the end of the Mayor's message, and how Mister Braxiatel and her had gone to pick up the message from the 'invisible' phone box.]

So when I say that 'keep each other safe' is what we've been asked to do, that is where it's from. Plus, it gave the hint needed to help us through the amnesia gas.

[walks alongside, at the same pace. It's a bit tricky with the distance in stride, but it takes focus to hear everything so it evens out.]

So, they're most likely someone who knows a lot about the details of the program… And access to the stuff to make this kind of thing, too. [frowns at the word 'trials'- that makes it sound a touch insignificant. But in a way, it makes some sense. The thing is, what's the destination?] I suppose they can't help us more than that. Especially if they're as close as that kind of knowledge suggests.

It seems strange that you'd have to be asked to do that, but… I guess not everyone grew up that way.

To record what happened?

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, and I think that the benefactor - or -s, plural - were putting themselves in danger to help us as much as they have been, so we can't take anything lightly.

But that's a good point about them having access to certain things, like the viewfinder. To think that it's been waiting for this opportunity all along!

[grins] No, I don't think that many of us had to be told to take care of one another, but it was certainly reinforcing that the way to get through this was together.

Yes, exactly that! Mister Braxiatel and I made some record of what has happened, and therefore we were able to work through that trial. However, it severely set us back in our investigation of doctor Resarci.

[nods]

Concealed until the right moment, huh? [sounds kind of like ninja concealment.] What did the viewfinder do?

Especially for the ones who might be a little reluctant.

[pulls a face] It would make it hard to get on track. How bad was the loss?

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
The memory loss varied greatly, for some reason. I had lost only months. Some lost many, many years.

As for the viewfinder, it seems to be able to show us what is really hidden behind this town. You didn't get a gold coin, so...
[She proceeds to tell him about the coin from the very first game, the second coin from the crane game, and about the 'glimpse of truth' that the viewfinder seems to afford. She shows him the sketches she and Mister Braxiatel made.]
desertdaggers: (know what you're doing?)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-20 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
No one remembered the town? That must've caused some grief, if you hadn't known to keep records.

Ahh, so that's what they meant.

These aren't anything anyone's seen in town? …It looks like there's something overlying everything. [squints, trying to make sense of the pictures] North looks like a garden, and a building- something like a castle? East… part of a large machine, perhaps. West has drawers, but it doesn't look right. [it's too impersonal. And south doesn't make any sense at all, whichever way he looks at it, so he points it out.] What do you make of this one?

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, it's like a glass ceiling or something. I know Mister Braxiatel did a very good job drawing it, but it's still hard to say what it is.
And west looked like some sort of futuristic chamber, something that would match the east view. It's all very confusing, because I don't understand how they connect with the north-south views.
desertdaggers: (you don't say)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-21 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Glass would be a dangerous thing to have around machinery, right? What could it be covering?

It might be easier if we had some of the views in-between. Since they're at the cardinal points, they're probably important, though.

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[She shakes her head - she has no idea.]

It would at that. But you're right - what we saw is what our benefactor thought was important. I'm sure we'll find out, but I always hope we don't find out too late!
desertdaggers: (bugs mean poison)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-21 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Can we reach it to find out?

[just… nods. He might be a little more tense than before, but he's thinking there's no need to burden her with his troubles.] If it's something that would hurt people…

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Fuu pauses her walk and looks to the south. From here she can't see the botanical garden, but she's certain that the sketch doesn't match the greenhouse windows. She looks up to the sky. ...A glass sky shattering...]

[Pulling herself out of the dark memory she smiles at him and continues walking.]

I don't think we could. We can't see or reach the other things either, right? And if it's something that would hurt us, well, then we'll just have to deal with it at that time and defeat it!
desertdaggers: (the shine of preparation)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-21 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
[looks up at the sky, and then at her. He thinks about asking, but- he was glad she let him be alone. Possibly she'd feel the same way. Either way, it wouldn't be fair to push without an indication.]

Of course. Still, for something like this- I don't like having to wait for it. […on the other hand, if it's really bad, that's fine. More fine than it would be, at least.]

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Fuu's a bit oblivious to how easily people can read her... It would have been pretty surprising if he's said anything!]

[gravely] No. The waiting is by far the worst. But to find it rather than have it come to us, [shrugs] both are difficult.
desertdaggers: (you don't say)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-21 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[mostly he's guessing from posture, and his own experience]

In theory, we could set up a trap if it was going to find us… But that'd require knowing more or less what it is, and timing. I think we're a bit at a loss there.

I take it you know how to fight?

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid that I do know, a bit. I can use a bow and arrow. I can use magic here as well. [...Better to keep the long story about that one short for now.]
desertdaggers: (these are sharp)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-21 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Afraid? Have things been going badly in your world, too? [so, distance over close-range, then. nods]

You said there wasn't magic in your world… did you learn it here?

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's not that things have been going badly in my world. It was actually another world. In another world I learned magic and used my arrows for something other than target practice.

I'm sorry, it's a long story. I didn't want to over-complicate things when you had to hear so much about Luministi first.
desertdaggers: (you don't say)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-21 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
In another world? So your own is relatively peaceful, then.

I'd be interested in hearing your story, if you have time, and if you're comfortable with it. [rolls his shoulders back, partly for something to do, partly to settle himself.]

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
...Relatively.

Really? [For a moment Fuu considers it. Perhaps... perhaps it would be nice to share the story with someone? Someone from another world, who might understand.]

If- if you'd like to listen, I certainly have the time to tell you about it.
desertdaggers: (and a clear blue sky)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-22 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Always something, I guess.

I'd like to listen. Maybe we could trade stories. [pain for pain, or something]

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be nice. [She gives him a thankful smile.]

I'd offer to have you come in for tea, but with the doors the way they are, it is probably better to stay outside. Besides... I'm afraid there are many things in that story that I would rather not the Luministi observers know. We're less likely to be overheard outdoors. [Well, maybe. With what the Doctor had said about hidden cameras...]
desertdaggers: (you don't say)

[personal profile] desertdaggers 2010-09-23 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's alright. The weather's looking nice- all I think we'd really need is a good place to sit. And perhaps some water.

I'd hope that we could notice observers.

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly! We are nearly at my apartment now. [Points at the building before them.] I'll bring us out some refreshment and we can sit... by the pool, perhaps?

Well, it seems possible that cameras can be hidden with the same technology that makes the sunglasses work.
