[randomly in the southern lawn of the town square, a silver view finder appears. pretty innocent looking, isn't it? and in actuality, it really is! only...what it shows might not be so innocent... nonetheless, observers will notice that the remaining residents who haven't been turned into dolls yet walk past it without noticing it at all. how odd.

a few minutes after its appearance, an unregistered CAT device sends an audio message to only the new residents, but those with keen ears will notice that the voice distortion is pitched a bit higher than normal. strange. the message goes as follows:]

Things are falling apart faster than I expected, so I can finally utilize this device while everyone is distracted. Use those prizes I gave you to get a glimpse of the truth! Thought you'd also like to know that he is safe and at home with his family far, far away from here. But please keep each other safe and beware R--

[the message, unfortunately, cuts off there...]

[ooc: Remember those gold coins embossed with the image of a lion and a sun? It seems someone has had something planned for them this entire time. Good thing you can recover it with your stolen item! Of course, there are some residents who can get one coin and others with two. Those with two will be able to use the view finder twice. Oddly enough, the view finder only will let you look at things in the four cardinal directions, and once you pick the direction, you can't move the view finder. So! Comment here ICly with the direction you wish to look at. Those of you with two coins can comment twice so we can let you know what you will see with your second choice. If you wish to comment/ask a question OOCly, you can as well!

Oh, and as a note, after you have used your coin(s) and return home, you will find that the lion paperweight has moved to a different location in your townhome. How or why that happened, well...you'll see soon enough...]

The memory loss varied greatly, for some reason. I had lost only months. Some lost many, many years.

As for the viewfinder, it seems to be able to show us what is really hidden behind this town. You didn't get a gold coin, so...
[She proceeds to tell him about the coin from the very first game, the second coin from the crane game, and about the 'glimpse of truth' that the viewfinder seems to afford. She shows him the sketches she and Mister Braxiatel made.]

No one remembered the town? That must've caused some grief, if you hadn't known to keep records.

Ahh, so that's what they meant.

These aren't anything anyone's seen in town? …It looks like there's something overlying everything. [squints, trying to make sense of the pictures] North looks like a garden, and a building- something like a castle? East… part of a large machine, perhaps. West has drawers, but it doesn't look right. [it's too impersonal. And south doesn't make any sense at all, whichever way he looks at it, so he points it out.] What do you make of this one?

Mmm, it's like a glass ceiling or something. I know Mister Braxiatel did a very good job drawing it, but it's still hard to say what it is.
And west looked like some sort of futuristic chamber, something that would match the east view. It's all very confusing, because I don't understand how they connect with the north-south views.

Glass would be a dangerous thing to have around machinery, right? What could it be covering?

It might be easier if we had some of the views in-between. Since they're at the cardinal points, they're probably important, though.

[She shakes her head - she has no idea.]

It would at that. But you're right - what we saw is what our benefactor thought was important. I'm sure we'll find out, but I always hope we don't find out too late!

Can we reach it to find out?

[just… nods. He might be a little more tense than before, but he's thinking there's no need to burden her with his troubles.] If it's something that would hurt people…

[Fuu pauses her walk and looks to the south. From here she can't see the botanical garden, but she's certain that the sketch doesn't match the greenhouse windows. She looks up to the sky. ...A glass sky shattering...]

[Pulling herself out of the dark memory she smiles at him and continues walking.]

I don't think we could. We can't see or reach the other things either, right? And if it's something that would hurt us, well, then we'll just have to deal with it at that time and defeat it!

[looks up at the sky, and then at her. He thinks about asking, but- he was glad she let him be alone. Possibly she'd feel the same way. Either way, it wouldn't be fair to push without an indication.]

Of course. Still, for something like this- I don't like having to wait for it. […on the other hand, if it's really bad, that's fine. More fine than it would be, at least.]

[Fuu's a bit oblivious to how easily people can read her... It would have been pretty surprising if he's said anything!]

[gravely] No. The waiting is by far the worst. But to find it rather than have it come to us, [shrugs] both are difficult.

[mostly he's guessing from posture, and his own experience]

In theory, we could set up a trap if it was going to find us… But that'd require knowing more or less what it is, and timing. I think we're a bit at a loss there.

I take it you know how to fight?

I'm afraid that I do know, a bit. I can use a bow and arrow. I can use magic here as well. [...Better to keep the long story about that one short for now.]

Afraid? Have things been going badly in your world, too? [so, distance over close-range, then. nods]

You said there wasn't magic in your world… did you learn it here?

No, it's not that things have been going badly in my world. It was actually another world. In another world I learned magic and used my arrows for something other than target practice.

I'm sorry, it's a long story. I didn't want to over-complicate things when you had to hear so much about Luministi first.

In another world? So your own is relatively peaceful, then.

I'd be interested in hearing your story, if you have time, and if you're comfortable with it. [rolls his shoulders back, partly for something to do, partly to settle himself.]

Really? [For a moment Fuu considers it. Perhaps... perhaps it would be nice to share the story with someone? Someone from another world, who might understand.]

If- if you'd like to listen, I certainly have the time to tell you about it.

That would be nice. [She gives him a thankful smile.]

I'd offer to have you come in for tea, but with the doors the way they are, it is probably better to stay outside. Besides... I'm afraid there are many things in that story that I would rather not the Luministi observers know. We're less likely to be overheard outdoors. [Well, maybe. With what the Doctor had said about hidden cameras...]

That's alright. The weather's looking nice- all I think we'd really need is a good place to sit. And perhaps some water.

I'd hope that we could notice observers.

Certainly! We are nearly at my apartment now. [Points at the building before them.] I'll bring us out some refreshment and we can sit... by the pool, perhaps?

Well, it seems possible that cameras can be hidden with the same technology that makes the sunglasses work.

A pool? That sounds pretty good.

Ah, I see. [it makes sense that they could expand what they did with the technology, though… has she explained cameras?]

It's quite nice, really. But being from a desert, you might think it an extravagant use of water?

[He'd seemed okay with the CAT and the video, but she can give a slightly more detailed run-down on what the Doctor theorized to her about hidden cameras and what the cameras do.]

It does, kind of. I've seen several places with more water than us, and people with the money tend to do that sort of thing, don't they?

[…well, they do have to get the image to project the holograms of people somehow. It's probably enough tech-talk in one day.]

That they do. [Not like there was room for many private pools in Tokyo, after all.]

[She steps off the main path and goes to her door, which promptly asks her a question. Hawk can hear it if he comes a bit closer (or has really good hearing): What small treasure was given to Ferio from Esmeraude when he was young?]

[Fuu gives a sad sigh and unconsciously fingers the ring on her finger before softly answering,]

[The door opens and Fuu disappears inside, to reemerge moments later with a tray laden with a pitcher of water, two glasses, and a plate of chocolate cookies from the bakery.]

[he's curious enough to edge close enough to hear the question, and just see her hands, but doesn't mention it as she comes out]

Would you like some help with that? [either way, he's snagging a cookie. and once they're seated, he indicates the ring.] Was that from a friend?

Thank you! If I may have you take the pitcher, please? [But once they get seated--]

[Fuu blushes and busies herself with pouring the glasses of water, which she nearly sloshes over.]

What- this? Um, it is! A very- dear friend. [Her expression gradually turns over from surprise to a kind, reflective smile. She very calmly hands him a glass of water.]
