✧ 03 ✧ Burning glances, turning heads

[The festival is a new experience for Jamie, and it would have likely brought him out even if he hadn't received the note. That just makes him more determined to go. He's even managed to get the idea that he should maybe dress up a wee bit, and is wearing a nice coat, ruffled shirt and a decorative baldric along with his usual great kilt. The mask he's gotten doesn't quite match, but he's resigned to having to have it on, at least for now - and the music notes on it aren't so bad.

It's a grand get together, to be sure, but his gaze keeps going over to the archways. And despite spending a good deal of time where there's food, he finds himself wandering closer and closer to that part of the square. Maybe a peek behind one of those curtains is in order...]

(( OOC: Jamie and Natsuo are going to explore curtain #1 thanks to the wonderful combination that is curiosity and boredom, but things are also open if people want to come chat or see about tagging along. Feel free to tease him about his kilt and get faces made at you in return. XD ))

[He turns as he's called and peers at the young lady curiously, trying to place who it is behind the mask.] Aye, it is.

[The voice is familiar, at least, so he takes a guess.] Sophie?

[Sophie smiles, glad for the familiar face] Yes, I'm Sophie. How are you, Jamie? [meaningfully] Enjoying the festival?

Oh, aye, it's something, all right. [This, incidentally, is said in the tone of someone who's not quite sure the something is necessarily a good thing. He glances around for a moment, as there's a question he wants to ask, but it seems a bit congested here.]

Would ye care to go for a bit of a walk with me?

[Sophie smiles wryly in a way that suggests she agrees. but she raises an eyebrow at the request, wondering what Jamie has in mind, then nods] Yes, of course. [she takes his arm, not wanting to get separated in the crowd]

[He puts his hand over her arm as they walk, the very picture of a gentleman escorting a lady throughout the celebration. It's not until they're a short distance away from the other townsfolk that he speaks again.]

Look, did ye pick that mask up in one of the stores? Or did ye happen to have it delivered to ye along with a wee note?

[Sophie raises an eyebrow] Mine came with a note. It seems someone wants to meet us.

Fuu has left a note (http://luministi.livejournal.com/37179.html?thread=2401851#t2401851) in front of the third arch, saying where Sophie and she went, and encouraging the others to try a different arch so they have a better chance of catching this person.

Following Fuu's example, Croix, Mu, Ichijou, and Hawk also left a note (it's stuck to curtain 2 with one of Ichijou's hairpins.).

[Natsuo can't stop staring at the archways, no matter what else he manages to get himself into. He really doesn't care that there's some riddle to figure out. In fact, he left his copy of the note at his house, and he can't even remember exactly what it says! But the archways themselves are curious enough, and the idea that the murderer could be behind one of them is just so very interesting...!

So he makes his way over. He spots Jamie, who looks just as curious as he is, and approaches. ]

Hey. Are you going?

[bonnypiperlad]

[He doesn't know this person, but the fact they've actually noticed the archway is enough to get Jamie to give Natsuo a thoughtful look. And then, of course, he gets a second, more confused one for the ears and tail.]

Aye, I might be. Why do ye ask?

[He makes a face at the confused look (not that you could tell very well through the mask (left) and the eyepatch behind that). Seriously? It's normal! What's wrong with everyone here?!]

They're real! [Grumble... He shakes his head.] Anyway, which one are you going in?

I've not decided yet. Thought I'd go take a look first.

[From here he can see something on the second and third curtains, and he peers at them with slightly narrowed eyes.]

Hey, do ye see wee bits of paper over there?

[Xion didn't change her style of dress, even for a celebration, and she's staying far away from the food (she's had bad experiences with Luministi festival food before... almost dying kind of sticks with you). She is, however, wearing her mask (http://www.socaldesignco.com/cart/product.php?productid=17024&cat=249&page=1) (which is suspiciously... girly for what looks like a teenage boy wearing a black coat), and she watches Jamie and Natsuo for a moment before approaching. She reaches them in time to hear that question.]

Yeah. It's a note, left by Sophie and Fuu. They went through that one... [She points.] And others went through the other one.

[He squints at the curtains, as though he could really read the notes from this far. After Xion explains, he smiles a bit.]

So we know which one we should take. [He points to the left.] Let's go.

[bonnypiperlad]

[Jamie, on the other hand, frowns over at where Fuu and Sophie went.]

They should have let one of us handle it. It may not be safe back there.

[Certainly no place for a pair of admittedly headstrong lasses. He glances back at Xion and the lad with the tail. That's still a bit strange, but he can worry about that later.]

Aye. Let's go. Maybe we can find them back there before they get themselves into trouble.

[It doesn't occur to him that maybe they should leave a note too.]

I'm sure they can take care of themselves. Sophie and Fuu are strong, and Fuu can fight, right? [Xion nods.] They'll be okay. [She believes in her friends.

It occurs to Xion, though!] Here, hold on. Let me write up a note... [digdigdigging through her inventory pockets until she finds a piece of paper and something to write with, and then she neatly writes out that she, Jamie, and Natsuo went through this archway, then sticks it on the doorway with a bit of tape, also from her inventory pockets.] There.

C'mon, let's go!

[arriving late to the party, is the Doctor, now decked out in a lovely black and silver pinstripe suit--he thought it wise to avoid all tuxedos for this occasion--and a lovely mask. currently, he's standing outside the three curtains, considering which one he might go in and thinking about what he's learnt and discovered, as well as if there might be any clues on the card they received or not, though he could have sworn he saw Jamie, Xion, and one of the new kids go into one a while ago...]

[Jamie - who has by this point left the others - is circulating, trying to spot any signs of Sophie or Fuu. Having not gotten the message yet, he's growing increasingly worried - some of which bleeds over as he sees the Doctor in front of the curtains. He darts over, making sure to hold his mask in place with his hand, even though he's re-tied it.]

Don't go in there, Doctor! It's a trap.

[arches an eyebrow] A trap? So it's one of those catch-and-release ones then, eh?

Aye, it's true ye can get out again. But something happens to ye once you're inside.

You mean aside from moment of realisation that you've walked into a trap, you mean?

[Hmrph.] Of course that's what I meant.

[He glances around for a moment and lowers his voice.] Look, I don't know how, but it's done something to our faces.

[considers him for a second, not getting what's wrong] Nothing seems wrong to me. Your mask is lovely! I particularly enjoy the music notes.

But you mean something entirely different, don't you?
