❧ ...Until someone loses an eye

[randomly in the southern lawn of the town square, a silver view finder appears. pretty innocent looking, isn't it? and in actuality, it really is! only...what it shows might not be so innocent... nonetheless, observers will notice that the remaining residents who haven't been turned into dolls yet walk past it without noticing it at all. how odd.

a few minutes after its appearance, an unregistered CAT device sends an audio message to only the new residents, but those with keen ears will notice that the voice distortion is pitched a bit higher than normal. strange. the message goes as follows:]

Things are falling apart faster than I expected, so I can finally utilize this device while everyone is distracted. Use those prizes I gave you to get a glimpse of the truth! Thought you'd also like to know that he is safe and at home with his family far, far away from here. But please keep each other safe and beware R--

[the message, unfortunately, cuts off there...]

[ooc: Remember those gold coins embossed with the image of a lion and a sun? It seems someone has had something planned for them this entire time. Good thing you can recover it with your stolen item! Of course, there are some residents who can get one coin and others with two. Those with two will be able to use the view finder twice. Oddly enough, the view finder only will let you look at things in the four cardinal directions, and once you pick the direction, you can't move the view finder. So! Comment here ICly with the direction you wish to look at. Those of you with two coins can comment twice so we can let you know what you will see with your second choice. If you wish to comment/ask a question OOCly, you can as well!

Oh, and as a note, after you have used your coin(s) and return home, you will find that the lion paperweight has moved to a different location in your townhome. How or why that happened, well...you'll see soon enough...]

[Surprised, Fuu peers through again.]

Ah? So you can't see this. This place is seriously unfair. How does a view finder know?

[Hurriedly, she pulls her journal and a pen from her bag.]

I'm afraid that art is my least favourite subject, but I might be able to manage something.

[She starts sketching out the round thing on the left, then moves onto the panels - drawers? - on the roof.]

...I don't suppose you have a pencil instead? This black thing is going to be hard.

Sorry. [He waves his silver pen, the one initialled 'T.V.G.', then puts it back in his pocket.] It's the only thing I have on me.

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's all right. It's mostly panels, so straight lines are okay. There are a couple of screens, but I can't quite see what's on them. And this strange black device... A scanner? A projector? It seems to be connected to the screens...

[She hurriedly sketches out the rest of the panel-drawer things so that she can concentrate on carefully trying to copy that black thing. While she's doing that-]

Say, is that pen the one that was taken from you? It must have been hard to get out of the game.

Oh, I've fairly good hand-eye coordination. [He observes her sketch with interest.]

[Fuu chuckles a little. Of course he does.]

And are you good at drawing? Because you get to be next!

[Fuu is trying to get in the details around the black machine when between one glance and the next, the shutter closes.]

Ahh-- That's it. [She tries to finish up the sketch by memory, makes some quick descriptive notes in the margins, then hands the book over to him.]

I've a reasonable talent for it. [Brax considers for a moment, looking at the notebook and thinking about the best way to do the panorama, and then chooses to give his first coin to the north direction.]

Hm. [With the careful precision of an architect rather than an artist, Brax sketches out what he sees.]

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
. . .
Wow, that's excellent. [Of course!]

[She frowns at the Town Hall, then looks back to the developing sketch.]

But it looks nothing like the room I saw. Not even a way for them to be connected - that looks like a wide-open space.

[He finishes up quickly, handing the notebook back to Fuu] Your turn, I think. To the East?

[ooc: nooo! Not the east! Hard to draw! XD... but south might be worse.]

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly! I'd like to see what's really under the library.

[Taking back the notebook she swings the viewfinder east and inserts the coin. She's ready to draw the moment the finder opens.]

XD

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Fuu makes a tiny strangled noise - this is going to be hard to draw.]

I wish you could see it, Mister Braxiatel. You might have some idea of what it is, at least.

[But she presses her lips together in concentration and gets to it. A tense five minutes later she sighs, finishes up the sketch with notes again, and hands the book back.]

The best for last?

[He scrutinizes what she drew for a moment, seeing what he can make out of it. Then he puts in his last coin and checks out our good friend the south.]

[Now that's very interesting. In silence, because he is too used to conducting his work in silence, Brax sketches what he sees with the same precision as before.]

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Fuu watches in polite silence, but not-so-politely over his shoulder. In black-and-white, it really doesn't make sense. She waits until the time runs out to ask,]

What is that now? Another thing that doesn't look at all related to mine...

We'll have to find out. [He looks over their completed notes, then nods to himself, certain that he has it committed to memory. Then he hands it all back to her.]

And we should check, just to be sure, if anyone else sees anything else.

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmm~ Is this all virtual reality? But the Doctor said that it seemed genuine; that the trees are long established...

Ahh. I don't understand how this can show us one thing, that our benefactor says is the truth, and we see something completely different with our own eyes.

If someone else saw something different, it might be more confusing, or more clues.

There are very convincing illusions. But there are multiple explanations to it all. I wonder how long this will stick around . . .

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so this might all be an illusion after all?

Won't you share with me your theories, Mister Braxiatel? Some idea even of how our four views can make one comprehensive picture? Or even what each individual view was for that matter!

[Fuu tilts her head at that last.]
Well, the benefactor did say that things are 'falling apart' fast... Likely not long.

I meant this thing. [He taps the viewfinder.] I was able to identify something of the cloaking technology in the glasses. I want to see what I can get out of this.

[identity profile] wind-of-reason.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohh... Cloaking technology? [She tilts her head again, a confused look on her face, then sighs with a grin.]

I'm afraid that it's wholly out of my league. It's all science fiction to me! I suppose I will leave you to it then, but thank you very much for coming out to see this with me. I'm certain that these sketches will be valuable.
...And you'll let me know how things go with getting something more out of this? [points to the view finder]

[With a smile.] Of course. The more information we share, the better off we'll do.
