[when Sophie turns on her CAT, her expression is neutral--very carefully so. on the surface, she seems normal, but someone looking closely might notice that her eyes are a bit red and puffy. otherwise, she has a blue shawl wrapped around her shoulders and is seated on the sofa in her townhome. as soon as she begins to speak, that neutral expression goes out the window, and her bitterness is clear]
Since they've so graciously given us some time to ourselves, I think we should use it wisely. It's been cold all day, and--knowing this town--that means it'll be worse tomorrow. I suggest everyone visit the stores and prepare for that. Also, I am going to knit hats and gloves with protective charms in them for anyone who is interested. If you'd like some, please stop by my townhome so I can take measurements.
[she pauses] And...to everyone who... [but her voice catches in her throat, and she lets it trail off. she swallows hard before adding, quickly, her voice thick:] Oh, nevermind! [she quickly shuts off her CAT]
[filtered to Kanaya]
[she takes a moment to collect herself before sending out another message, keeping her tone as businesslike as she can do] I know we met under rather...false pretenses. But if you do know how to knit, and you wouldn't mind, I could use your help. Would you like to?

What? By that argument, it's everyone's fault! No, the one who is to blame for all this is Resarci, and that's that.

no subject
[she picks up the measuring tape and finally walks over to him] Let me see your hands.
no subject
Ye still have to admit that if we could have found Resarci maybe things would have been different.
no subject
Well, yes, but that's no reason to blame yourself.
no subject
[He turns his hands over so she can measure the width of his palms, if she needs it.] I still don't like it, though.
no subject
Your head next. Could you bend down a bit?
no subject
Look, Sophie, if there's a way to figure this out, we'll find it. Maybe we can go talk to the Doctor after this and see if he has any new ideas.
no subject
[softly] Thank you; that's all I needed.
Perhaps...you should speak to the Doctor. [she can't meet his eyes as she says it]
no subject
Sophie? Ye don't want to go talk to him, do ye. Whyever not?
no subject
no subject
After what? Did something happen between the two of ye?
no subject
[she doesn't really understand exactly why herself, but mainly she doesn't want to face that reminder of the false happiness she felt when her memories were changed]
no subject
All I'm saying is that this sort of thing's happened before. Well, maybe not that exactly, but he'll understand it wasn't anyone's fault but the town's.
no subject
[not that she's done a good job of explaining, of course. but she turns away from Jamie in angry frustration--and then sits there biting her lip because she has no idea what else to do. even she knows she's being ridiculous, but that isn't enough to make her stop]
no subject
[Because that really is pretty obvious to him, given the way she's reacting.]
Have ye not thought that maybe that's why the town did what it did? Maybe it wanted us to be upset and not want to talk to each other, because then we'd not fight as well together to get out of here.
no subject
[the kettle chooses that moment to begin to go off. Sophie stands abruptly, turning her back on him] I have to get the tea!
[her voice is full of tears, and as she rushes out of the room with her back still to him, they begin to run down her face]
no subject
Och. I'd not meant...
[He hesitates for a moment, torn between following her and giving her her space. Following wins out, and he goes into the kitchen after her. Or at least as far as the doorway.]
Sophie? Look, I'm sorry. Are ye all right?
no subject
Of course I'm not all right! My husband is missing, my son is stuck as a kitten, and because of this town, I couldn't even remember--!
[but her tirade loses its steam, and with one more shout of frustration, she dissolves briefly into sobs]
When I get my hands on them, it'll be green slime for them! I'll find a way to make them--!
no subject
We'll find a way to fix it, Sophie. Somehow.
no subject
no subject
Aye, but don't things there stay the same while you're away from it? You'll still be able to get back and find Howl again, and figure out how to turn Morgan back as well.
no subject
Yes. I will--of course I will! [she sighs, frustrated with herself] Jamie...thank you. I... [she trails off, not sure what to say]
no subject
Look, it's alright, Sophie. Ye miss them, and there's no shame in that. I'm sorry if I said anything to make it worse.
no subject
Oh, the tea! [she turns as she realises, quickly putting the teabags in the cups of water to steep]
