[It's a nice and normal day in Luministi, and that's definitely the case in the Sheriff's office. Today is yet another training day for Deputy Washington and his deputies-in-training. Currently, he's standing in front of a map of the town, his gray suit pressed and dry-cleaned, his yellow tie knotted snugly in place. He's very much a man who has a neat and clean appearance, though his hair could use a trim. He's been remiss, whatwith the festival preparations and security needed during that time. Thankfully, he didn't need his riot gear (re: armor), so that's stowed away safely in a closet.]

All right, all right, settle down. Now, we were pretty lucky things went as smooth as they did during the festival. There were a couple years where we weren't so fortunate. Need I remind you what our very own Sagan Natsuo did? [He pauses for silence, not expecting an answer. Everyone remembers that incident.] No? I thought so.

Anyway, I thought we'd start today with a practical kind of exercise, so I hope you've worn comfortable shoes. We're going to be on our feet for the rest of the day.

[ooc: Okay deputies-in training, this post is for you! And yes...this man is a de-helmeted Wash. Take it in now since...it won't likely happen again for the rest of the game.]

[said incident was very hilarious, but if there's one thing terezi doesn't do in front of a officer is voice her opinion about such things. well, at least most of the time...

guess who's like the most excited person to be here. that's right, it's terezi pyrope, who's pumping her fist in the air excitedly.]

This is going to be great! To be able to catch criminals, you have to be fast on your feet, everyone!

[he points at Terezi] Exactly! We might be fortunate living in a small town like Luministi where there aren't exactly a lot of troublemakers or visitors, but we still have to maintain order before chaos has a chance to strike.

[grandbellknight]

[And here's Croix, sitting in the back... just to make sure no one else in the back is blatantly not paying attention. It's pretty much his self-assigned job at these things, since... well, he already knows what's going on. He's been training to be a deputy for how long now...?

He keeps quiet, just waiting for the exercise to actually begin. Of course he doesn't have any questions~]

[Wash has noticed this and turns his attentions to him] Junior Deputy Bartel, I thought we'd do things a little differently this year. Would you join me up here, please? [motions for Croix to join him in the front of the room.]

[grandbellknight]

[Welp, that's new! Croix blinks, caught a little bit off-guard, and stands.]

Uh- Yes sir.

[As he walks toward the front, he can't tell if everyone really is staring at him or not, but he sure does feel like they are. Geez...]

[Wash actually looks pretty proud as Croix joins him.] I can remember the first day when a young Croix Bartel enrolled in this little program of ours. He was quiet but always attentive and dutiful. It takes years of diligent training and job shadowing to reach the position he's in, and today, all that hard work is about to pay off.

Now...Sheriff Iussus really wanted to be here for this, but as he's away on an important assignment for the Mayor, he's given me the authority to promote you to Deputy. [he turns, plucking a hat and badge off the desk, and holds it in front of him. a rare, broad grin is on his face.] Congratulations, Deputy Bartel.

[Croix has to fight the urge to fidget in place when Washington starts talking about when Croix first joined the program. He just stands there, arms by his side, hoping there's a reason he's up here that goes beyond just nostalgia or whatever - because that's a little embarrassing, actually--

-- "promote". What.

Welp, that's really new. He looks from the hat and badge, to Washington, and back and forth again... He smiles a bit, not entirely sure he can believe this is happening. He seriously had no idea this was coming right now.]

I... heh. [He takes both the hat and badge, smiling.] Thank you. [And he'd like to be able to say more, but he's still a little too shocked.]

[vengefulagent]

[claps him on the shoulder just once] Don't thank me. You earned it! You're still a junior officer compared to me in terms of rank, but now you have the authority that comes with being an official deputy.

Now! Deputy Bartel, would you do the honors and lead the group in today's patrolling exercise?

I've got a question. Are we allowed to know exactly what we'll be doing? Or are you surprising us again?

[At least he's equipped to take any answer in stride, by now.]

[vengefulagent]

[He grins ever so slightly] No surprises this time, Luke. We're going on patrol. [he sounds pretty excited, though...the actual job isn't really thrilling at all.] And each of you are on your own this time. I think you're all ready for it.
