[The festival is a new experience for Jamie, and it would have likely brought him out even if he hadn't received the note. That just makes him more determined to go. He's even managed to get the idea that he should maybe dress up a wee bit, and is wearing a nice coat, ruffled shirt and a decorative baldric along with his usual great kilt. The mask he's gotten doesn't quite match, but he's resigned to having to have it on, at least for now - and the music notes on it aren't so bad.

It's a grand get together, to be sure, but his gaze keeps going over to the archways. And despite spending a good deal of time where there's food, he finds himself wandering closer and closer to that part of the square. Maybe a peek behind one of those curtains is in order...]

(( OOC: Jamie and Natsuo are going to explore curtain #1 thanks to the wonderful combination that is curiosity and boredom, but things are also open if people want to come chat or see about tagging along. Feel free to tease him about his kilt and get faces made at you in return. XD ))

[arches an eyebrow] A trap? So it's one of those catch-and-release ones then, eh?

Aye, it's true ye can get out again. But something happens to ye once you're inside.

You mean aside from moment of realisation that you've walked into a trap, you mean?

[Hmrph.] Of course that's what I meant.

[He glances around for a moment and lowers his voice.] Look, I don't know how, but it's done something to our faces.

[considers him for a second, not getting what's wrong] Nothing seems wrong to me. Your mask is lovely! I particularly enjoy the music notes.

But you mean something entirely different, don't you?

Aye, I do. It...look, maybe it'd be better if I showed ye.

[his eyebrows rise, curious] Go on, then.

[nothing seems amiss, not from what he can see]

[Taking a deep breath, he undoes the ties holding the mask to his head, and removes it. He'd say something after that, but since he no longer has a face, he can't.]

[surprised] This again? Blimey, lose your face again, and I'll start think--[his eyes widen a bit as something occurs to him and he grabs hold of Jamie's shoulders]--hold on a mo'! Jamie, you didn't look into a television set and see a middle-aged woman, did you?

[he frowns severely the moment those words leave his mouth and he starts to mutter] Well, it can't be her because you've still got your face and aren't a semi-lifeless husk of your former self. So what is it...?

[The Doctor's comment would have normally gotten a confused 'Hey', were it not for the fact that Jamie still can't actually talk...or even look confused. He wiggles free of the Doctor's grasp, and sets about getting the mask back on. Once he does, he can talk normally again.]

What are ye on about, Doctor?

[he opens his mouth to explain, then shuts it again] Never mind. Different time, place, and...face stealing entity. [but at least it wasn't the Land of Fiction again.]

This was the trap then, yeah? But you could hear and understand me... [pulls his glasses on, peering intently at Jamie's face--or rather, what little of it he can see under the mask] Very curious...

Aye, and there's no need for ye to go and have your face stolen, too.

[At least he can still talk while he has the mask on, which is...something, he supposes.]

It happened after we saw that message on one of those CATs that was inside.

[rubs his chin] Yeah... You've got a point.

You found one in there? What did the message say?

It was some sort of recording, taken somewhere else. I'm not sure where. But some of the townsfolk were there. And that one man...Protcor, I think it was, with some guards. He was talking about a sale, and the destruction of loose ends. One of the townsfolk...the Sheriff...had been shot.

Another man, a younger one, showed up. He told the townsfolk to grab on to him. They did, and then they all vanished.

[his eyes are wide open by this point] And that's it? Iussus was shot and another person swooped in at the last minute to save them? I mean, aside from that usually being my job, did you recognise the other man? Did he look like anyone else in the town?

[Oh, for heaven's sake. Jamie gives the Doctor a bit of a look. Does he really think he'd not have said something if he knew that?]

Look, Doctor, if I knew who it was, would I have not told ye so? I've not seen him before.

Well, to be fair, it doesn't hurt to double-check--especially when you didn't say one way or another whether you knew him or not the first time around.

[subject change!] But anyway, that does answer some things. And leaves so many new things unanswered! At this rate, we're never going to get anywhere.

Aye, it seems like there's more questions about things every time we turn around.

[anxiously]And what about my face being missing? Do ye think it can be fixed, Doctor?

[puts a hand on his shoulder] Yes. Everything that happens in this in town eventually stops and things return to normal for a time. You'll get your face properly back--and I won't have to try to mould it this time.

Try to...what? Nothing's happened to my face before this, Doctor. I'd think I'd know if it had.

[that stops him short] --Ah. Right. Well! Trust me, something had happened before and I fixed it good as new! And I certainly didn't accidentally make you a new face for a short period of time before I was able to give it another go either. Nope!

Oh, aye, of course. [Luckily for the Doctor, Jamie doesn't believe him about having his face altered in the the first place, so there's not really much of reaction apart from a dismissive shake of his head.]

Aye, well. Anyway, I suppose having to wear a mask for a bit isn't so bad. [He gestures back at the curtain.] Look, you're still not going to go in there, are ye?

[part of him still does, but he doesn't admit that openly to Jamie.] Nah. After all, why go for the one I know will only be a trap when there are two other options? [he grins cheekily, patting Jamie on the shoulder]

[For some reason, hearing this doesn't surprise Jamie at all, although he's not exactly sure why that is. He's also not entirely sure that it's a good idea for the Doctor to go by himself.]

Och. Fine, then, let's go take a look.

[firmly] No. You're going to stay here. No need for you to lose more than just your face. [then a cheeky grin starts to spread across his face] Don't worry, though. I'll be all right. Traps aren't traps to me for long.
