[Sophie is in the Town Square again, though this time with a very large shopping bag set on the ground at her feet. while she is standing calmly enough, there are some subtle signs of the anxiety and exhaustion that she's been feeling lately. her hair isn't quite as neat as usual, and her dress looks a tad wrinkled. in fact, it's a new dress--forest green, edged in lace, but a very simple design overall. the skirt of it is very loose, clearly designed with plenty of leeway, for a reason that those looking closely at her might notice. at this point in her pregnancy, Sophie has started to show a small baby bump]

Hello again, everyone. [she clasps her hands in front of her as she talks, that calm expression becoming a bit more nervous. she glances around, as though concerned about being overheard, before she continues] Many of you asked me for charms before, and I've finished them all. If you'd like to meet me in the Town Square, I have them here.

This would also be a good opportunity to discuss other recent...events, as well. In person is best, I think. [she smiles somewhat grimly]

No, not really. I just wanted to bring something interesting to your attention, and to apologize.

I'm sorry for not explaining myself at the time, and for worrying you. But the reason was, I... think I died last week.

[puts a hand to her mouth] Oh, goodness, not you too! Are you certain you're all right?

[It's... somehow rather reassuring to know that she's not the only one, but disturbing as well.]

Yes, thank you. I'm truly sorry to have worried you. Other than a couple... small things, I'd almost think it hadn't happened.

In fact... [Taking a breath to mentally steady herself for talking about this, she holds out the dress. Letting it unfold, she then holds it up against herself.]

I was wearing this when it happened. I was- pierced with an arrow. Right here. [She presses her fingers over her heart, then lifts the dress out a bit, so that Miss Sophie can inspect the fabric if she wishes.]

There is no indication that a hole was there at all. But, if I may say so, my undergarment had a hole.

It's quite all right. But... [considering she understands fabric better than she does most people, Sophie doesn't hesitate to step forward and take the dress, carefully inspecting the area that would be over Fuu's heart] You're certain you were wearing both at the time?

[she frowns at the dress, which not only shows no sign of a hole but also no sign of loose threads, patching, or any changes since she originally made it herself] This is very strange...

[She nods.] Yes, there was certainly both. And I've been wearing this as much as possible. I especially wanted to wear it while going out investigating.

It's strange, but I think it also points towards something important. Miss Sophie, your charm is somehow beyond what Luministi could affect. The arrow still got me, but I believe your magic kept the fabric whole.

However, I'm afraid that this one sample is not quite enough to call it proof positive.

[stares down at the dress, perplexed] It could have kept the fabric whole, I suppose, but the charm was meant to protect the wearer, not the dress! [sighs, putting a hand to her head] If anything, it suggests the town isn't bothered by the charms at all, don't you think? The clothing alone is safe from harm.

[she scowls. all that work for this! what a disappointment]

[Fuu looks at Sophie anxiously.]

Oh, no! I didn't mean that at all! I really think it means that the town can be bothered by the charms.

But only far enough to protect themselves! [she considers Fuu's point, though, putting a finger to her chin] Though I suppose it does mean other charms could have other effects, even if they don't quite work as intended...

You're right! Come to think of it, little here works as it seems it should. The roads loop back, the library books don't have contents that match the covers, things spontaneously appear and disappear. I'm sure you're on the right track by thinking outside the box!

It might take some experimentation, but I'm sure that you can find something that could be really- big! [She gestures grandly, but honestly, she's not sure what she means by that. Just - something hugely helpful, perhaps?]

[she smiles, amused by Fuu's optimism] Yes, I'll certainly think about charms for future situations. Thank you, Fuu. This could be very useful information, though I'm very sorry you found out about it in such a way.
