[Willis has spent his first few hours in Luministi being confused. And whining a lot. And then assuming this was all a dream, taking a nap, waking up, and whining some more. Eventually he decided that if he was going to be stuck here... he might as well explore.

So he spent the next hour riding around town on his bicycle in an attempt to figure out the layout of the town. Which is kindasorta empty. Which is only making him even more confused.

Yeah, guess who has absolutely no clue about the murder yet.

He stops his bike near the library and leans forward, resting his head on the handlebars.]

Agh. Jeez, so much for finding something interesting.

[nineteen is totally older] That's very rude, you know.

[because she's a mother-to-be on a mission?] Have you? And does walking into it generally help the situation?

[Only by six years!!] Jeez. Sorry.

Yeah, it actually sort of did.

Did it? What happened, exactly?

[she lets the edge drop out of her voice. it'll be much easier to find someone for him to stay with if he isn't complaining the whole trip]

[Sorry, Sophie. That plan might have just backfired.]

[wow, that's some attitude] Ah, then it wasn't very helpful.

What wasn't? Running into danger? You're wrong there. Hiding from it wasn't helpful.

[sighs] We're simply being cautious. We are trying to find out what happened as well.

But I still don't see how running into danger has helped you.

You wouldn't. [Siiiigh.] It's nothing.

[He's silent for a few moments, before something fiiiinally clicks:]

Hey, you said you were a witch, right? Got a magic wand? [Joking. All the joking.]

All right then. [at least he's still walking with her]

[glances at him] Yes, I am. I did have one, though I don't anymore.

You don't? I thought you said you were protected. [Beat.] Don't witches only exist in fairy tales anyway?

Why would I need a wand to be protected? [she knows her stick was likely better protection than her magic in general, but his reaction strikes her as very odd]

[oh wonderful, another one!] Of course not. Witches and wizards are quite common in Ingary. My sister is a witch and my husband is a wizard, and I know plenty more besides.

[Jokingly:] Isn't that how it normally works? You have a wand, say "bippity boppity boo" and turn a prince into a toad?

... Ingary? Where's that on the map?

[yeah, she definitely hasn't seen the films. she gives him a look like that's one of the strangest things she's heard in a while--which it is] And why would I do that?

It's near Strangia. Though I suppose, depending on what world you're from, it might not be on your maps at all.

[Returning that strange look.] ... Why wouldn't you do that?

[wait world what --] What do you mean, what "world?"

Well, what good would turning a prince into a toad be? If it were our Prince Justin, the king would be upset again, and if I found a prince in Strangia, I'm sure the war would just get even worse!

[patiently] Your world. Most of the people here seem to be from a world called "Earth," but I'd never heard of it before! Do you know what world you're from?

Because that's what they usually do in stories! - [Hold on -] Wait, war?

Yeah, I'm from Earth. [Blink.] Wait, so you're not?

What silly stories those must be! [but her expression darkens at that question] Ingary and Strangia are at war right now. [and that's where she's going to leave that unless he asks for more]

No! As I said, until I came here, I didn't know there was such a place. It's odd how many of the people who come to this town are from there, really...

Hey, they're classics! Except witches usually lock helpless damsels in towers, or have them eat an apple that makes them fall into an eternal sleep, or poison them... That sort of thing. Usually for a really shallow reason. [Pause.] ... You're not one of those witches, right?

Huh. Maybe Earth's just bigger in relation to Hungry and Strangeland or wherever it is you're from.

[eyes him. did he really just ask her that?] No. Those sound more like the sort of witches who are into dark magic--although rather silly ones, at that.

Ingary. And Earth might be. I've heard it has quite a large number of people.

You don't hear too many stories about good witches. Usually they're mean and stupid. And ugly. [Shrug~] But you don't fall into those categories, so I guess I believe you.

Yeah, it really does. About six billion, I think? Probably a lot more than Injury.

[he is lucky he added that last part. Sophie looks a bit mollified] There are many "good" witches--and wizards--in Ingary.

Yes, Mu said something like that! I'm not certain how many people are Ingary, but it must be a much smaller number. [thoughtfully] I'll have to ask the king the next time I see him.

Right. So you're a "good" witch?

[... Woah.] You can actually talk to the king?

Yes.

[nods] Of course. [okay, so maybe it wouldn't be so simple if Howl weren't such an important part of the war strategy--and if Princess Valeria hadn't taken such a liking to her. but still] My husband is the Royal Wizard.

[Mind is seriously blown right now.] Royal Wizard...? Wizards are royal? So does that make you a Royal Witch?
