[No violence or rage from this one, just nonchalant curiosity!]

Hey, I think I’ve mysteriously arrived from an alternate universe or dimension just now.

Please reply if you know anything about it. I've never done this before.

Also, if there are any helpful fairies or big brother/sister types here, I really want someone to show me around! Establishing the setting is an important part of any story! A very important part! A map printed inside of a dust cover at the beginning (or even worse, the very end) never does the locations justice as much as following a character through them does!

Speaking of which, getting to know the characters is even more important - we could make it a group event!

Certainly not that I've ever heard of.

Oh, that's unfortunate! I have a lot of manga with me that would be perfect to disappear into!

How I got here, let's see... I was waiting for some friends of mine to finish running an errand, and all of a sudden, poof! Except it wasn't really a poof, it was more like a flash of light! Kind of like in a Magical Girl series where the heroines enter a transformation sequence or in a sci-fi series where the writers didn't want to explain the specifics of space travel or waste time on a transition sequence so all we get to see is a spaceship disappearing in a burst of light and a blur.

If I had to guess, I'd say that this world or universe is doomed but in a last-ditch effort a powerful wizard or force of nature (or both) decided to reach out into alternate dimensions to summon a diverse cast of unlikely heroes! Or maybe this is just a classic fish-out-of-water story where the protagonists are just plain stuck in an unfamiliar place with no rhyme or reason, just for the sake of exploring how people adapt to especially unusual situations. I also wouldn't dismiss the idea that this is all a dream, but that plot is way overused as it is.

I always knew this kind of thing would happen some day!

[has absolutely no idea what he's talking about] Then we all seem to have arrived in the same manner. [or, at least, as best as she can guess from that description] But I don't think this town is looking for anyone to save it. We simply seem to be here for someone to toy with and exploit. Strange things are happening constantly. Right now, there's even a murderer on the loose!

Oh my my my, a murder mystery town! If we're all being toyed with by some kind of chessmaster, it would be such a disappointment! That kind of ending is almost never approached in an interesting way. It's almost as bad as "they were actually dead the whole time!"

[recoils, a bit shocked by that possibility] I think you'll find we're all quite alive!

Though I do wonder about the original residents at times.

It was an example! If everyone was dead the whole time, nobody would be getting murdered because they would already be dead. Unless they can die more than once, but I don't know that that's even possible without the help of a demonic fruit that can only influence one person at a time.

You might be on to something with that. I haven't talked to anyone who's from here, but the recording that played when I got here was in black and white, but this CAT phone seems more advanced than my cellphone. On the other hand, since this is probably an alternate universe, they could be pulling some kind of steampunk type of move with the technology, but in a way that doesn't completely hit you over the head with gears and brass like usual.

Has anyone actually seen the Mayor recently?

Oh. [she hadn't thought of that. well, at least not that it's odd that the original recording was black and white. she didn't really understand the rest of what he said] You're right; nothing else I've seen from the CAT has been without colour. That is strange.

No. [meaningfully] Occasionally the Mayor makes broadcasts, but I don't believe any of us have ever seen him in person.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were different. Alternate universes can have a lot of similarities, but they're never too alike. That would just be boring.

The Mayor's absence could be an important plot point! A very, very important plot point! He could have been dead the whole time!

Or he might've just thought that the old-fashioned film look would make his town seem more quaint.

[he seems quite knowledgeable!] Have you seen many alternate universes?

[taken aback] Dead? Do you really think so?

Whatever the case, I'm quite certain there's a good reason we can never speak to him in person.

No, never! But I've read about them. That's what makes this so exciting!

Right now I'm only guessing about this town and the people here, it'll take a while before I'm familiar enough with the canon to really get things figured out. Even if I'm wrong, there's always AU fic!

[wow, he makes no sense whatsoever] All right.

Sophie Hatter! What a cute name! It reminds me of the secret daughter of an emperor, serving as a tough-but-loving officer who will later be crowned as a beloved empress!

[embarrassed] Oh, no! I'm not even the daughter of a poor woodcutter, I'm afraid. I'm the eldest of three daughters to a well-to-do family.

But... [smiles faintly] I have managed to successfully seek my fortune, despite being the eldest.

That's just as well! You must at least be lucky or determined, then! Maybe as lucky as the emperor's daughter or as determined as a devoted officer!

What kind of fortune is it?

[smiles, feeling rather appreciated] I get to live happily ever after with someone very important to me. I'm certain it will be quite eventful.

Oh my my my, that's so sweet, Sophie! Like something out of a fairy tale, and not the kind where the author decides that they want to be edgy and put some kind of horrible spin on things because they think it makes them sound cool!

Unless your being here is supposed to be that kind of twist, but that would be really boring and uncreative.

[makes a face] Yes, being here has been very inconvenient. I do wish I understood how I even came when I was with so many people before I was taken from my world.

What sort of life do you lead, Walker? Are you a poet? [because clearly that must be why he says such strange things]

[Super serious:] From what I've read, interdimensional travel is a very mysterious and specific thing.

I'm definitely not a poet! I write sometimes, but not poetry, and it's not my job either. I'm a freelance ice sculptor.

Even that doesn't take much of my time, though. I have a flexible enough schedule that I can do whatever I want most of the time.

An ice sculptor? That sounds like a very interesting profession.

[and, because shockingly a number of the people here have said no to this] Is there magic in your world?

Not many people do it, but demand isn't very high either so it all works out in the end.

Magic, well...

Most of our legends have turned out to be true and they mostly include things that could only be possible through magic or really really good CG...

I'll say yes. But I'm not magical that I know of, if that's what you're asking.

[surprised by that slightly confusing answer] But...magic is just a legend, where you're from?
