θ-10 Come one, come all!

[As soon as the sun as set, Doctor John Smith is up in a grassy area somewhere off near the malt shop, with a peculiar setup before him. But...those who know a thing or two about pyrotechnics will know exactly what he's about to do.]

[He turns his CAT on, a big, broad and excited grin on his face]

Hellooooooooooooo Luministi!!! It's that time of year again, and as always, the Mayor has asked me to kick off the celebration with a little display. [there's a mischievous twinkle in her eye] Not even Soph knows what I've got planned this year, so! I think it's about time I show you!

[He shuts the CAT off, and there is nothing for a few moments...

...but then, there's a high-pitched whine followed by an explosion of colour! One after another, fireworks shoot up into the air, and the good doc has not skimped on them. There are ones that change colors, shoot up into different formations, some that even transform from one shape to another.

The display will go on for a good hour, but while those are going on, the festivities have officially started! Parties in the town square with food, game, and drinking booths will go on. The rides are up in full force. There's even dancing going on in the southern shopping plaza area as well as the botanical gardens. Everything the mayor mentioned and more is there for everyone to partake in.]

[Cue the big brother looking very, very upset as he floats in front of her. Despite his "Talon" t-shirt and clear work attire, he's on break for the next... oh, however long their parents can manage without him.]

I don't really care if you take stuff from me without asking, but you should've at least paid for the stuff from Mr. Tennyson first.

[Oh, drat. It's her loving older brother. Dearest brother, she loves you, but she's looking very put out right now at the sight of you. Also, she doesn't like that you're so high above her, so she's going to literally spread her butterfly wings and fly up too. Nothing weird about that at all.]

In my defense, I'm just preparing him for the worst. What if one day in this ever peaceful boring town, he gets robbed for real! Thanks to me, he won't be standing there like a chump while it happens. He'll be prepared.

Oh, that's how it is. You're like the preemptive strike so that he can't ever be caught off-guard... Just like last year?

[He shakes his head.] Nah. If it gets to the point where you're stealing a ton of stuff, then I'll tattle, but I'd rather not.

[Right.

That's good? Vriska's not sure why she asked or why she cares. She knows her parents love her and that they would care if she were in trouble. (Or if she caused trouble. Minor details.) At the same time, however, it's weird. Almost like she isn't used to having a family. Almost like she's testing them by doing bad things... Growing up sure is hard.

Her lips twist, uncertain as to whether they want to smile or frown. Then they settle into a version of the former. Small, but real.]

Ha! I know you always have my back. That's what siblings are for. [For a split second there, she'd almost said sisters. What a slip that would be! Especially since she doesn't have any sisters. She only has Kon, only him.] Thanks!

[She darts a quick look around to make sure no one's watching and then floats closer to hug him lightly, awkwardly. He feels familiar and unfamiliar all at once.] Really.
