❧ Someone has poisoned the waterhole! **Quick-time event**
[a new face appears on the CAT this time--that of a man with dark, thinning hair and square-framed glasses. he is in an office of some sort, which appears very white and sterile, and there are medical implements on the desk behind him. perhaps unsettlingly, he is wringing his hands and looking quite agitated. he seems unaware that the CAT is broadcasting at first. the hint of a voice can be heard from off-screen, and the man jumps] It is? Already. Oh my! [he turns then, looking head-on at the listeners, and gives a thin smile that does little to cover his obvious nervousness] Hello residents, I am Doctor Ernesto Resarci. It is good to meet you. [pauses, nodding as though to acknowledge those who are watching. the pause continues for a bit more time than is perhaps natural, and the good doctor's smile fades as he opens his mouth but clearly has trouble convincing himself to begin speaking]
[after that awkward pause, he does eventually recover his composure and begin to speak, though his tone does little to conceal his nervousness] I do not plan to alarm anyone, but I am afraid I have some rather serious news. It has come to our attention that a...how do I say...a foreign element was introduced by an unknown party into much of the food and drink served recently at our prestigious Chrysalis restaurant during its grand opening. But not to worry! This third party has, graciously, left us a clue to the antidote. The best medical minds in town are currently working on unraveling this clue, and as you know, Luministi has only the most qualified employees here at the Resarci medical clinic. And at the very least, our testing of the food and drink informs us that the poison is slow-working. It takes four days for it to begin to affect those who have ingested it, meaning that no residents should be experiencing any ill effects until... [pauses, counting days on his fingers] Oh dear. [smiles tightly] It seems residents may begin to experience symptoms of the poisoning any time in the near future, but please, do not be alarmed! We are continuing a thorough analysis of the food and drink in question, and we will also have the clue to the antidote solved very soon. But, just in case any residents would like to--how do you say it? "Take matters into one's own hands," yes? I will share the clue with you. This does not mean that we are having difficulty solving it! Quite the opposite, I assure you. Here. [produces a crisp, white sheet of paper from somewhere off-screen. he holds it up for a moment, giving the CATs a full view of the neatly typed document. then he pulls it down in front of him and reads:]
You see? The solution is simple. We will have it for you soon. [smiles thinly] But if you have any ideas, please share, yes? I will keep a CAT channel open for...tips. We will talk again when we have the solution! Do not worry, we will take good care of you. [gives one more thin smile before the transmission ends]

- The venom you'll find is a special kind
From a secret source, smaller than a flea
More deadly than the wrath of the sea
Hounding you discreetly ever since your happy revelry
All hope is not yet gone
As long as you mind the time and don't take too long
To find your salvation, you must seek and unlock
First, you must find the eye of the beast
And with it, you must visit the guardian of time
Find the slot to unlock, at the base of his place
With both steps accomplished, all will then be safe
You see? The solution is simple. We will have it for you soon. [smiles thinly] But if you have any ideas, please share, yes? I will keep a CAT channel open for...tips. ❧ Plot Details: Someone has poisoned the waterhole! **Quick-time Event**
- The fireworks displays are over, and all of the festivities for the Founder's Day Festival have ended. The rides and stands will remain as long as characters are looking at them, but as soon as they turn their backs, they will mysteriously disappear. The only signs of the festival that will not disappear are the historical display in the town hall and the treehouse restaurant, The Chrysalis, both of which will remain unchanged.
And the other shoe has finally dropped! It seems that the restaurant's grand opening wasn't as innocent as it seemed. All characters who consumed any of the food or drink at the restaurant during the party will find that they have been poisoned. This is a very special sort of poison, which is in fact impervious to any natural poison resistance that characters might have. Usually not affected by poison or have a natural defense to counteract it? Sorry, this one will work on you and there is no way to stop it. Or is there?
As the good doctor implied, this slow-acting poison should now have reached the stage where characters will begin to feel the effects of it. Depending on how much food and drink they consumed, characters may start to experience symptoms such as dizziness, lack of appetite, feverishness, exhaustion, and uncontrolled temperature changes. The exact symptoms your character feels are up to you, but no matter what they are, these symptoms will be mild at first, and within the next three days, they will worsen to the point of near incapacitation. By next Wednesday, characters will succumb to the poison. Just what does that mean? That is why this is, in the way of video games, known as a "Quick-time event." The time limit is very real. If characters fail to find the antidote by 12 noon EST on Wednesday, they will, unfortunately, find out what the poison does.
But finding the antidote is far from impossible! The two parts to the antidote described above are items that can be found in town. In fact, they are both things that were specifically referred to in previous mod posts. The riddle also includes a large number of clues to the nature of these two items. Using the clues and their knowledge of items in town, characters are free to try whatever combinations they can think of to find the antidote. When a character thinks they have the solution, comment ICly to this post, including a link to the entry/thread where the solution was found. Resarci will have his experts test it. If (when?) the true antidote is found, another mod announcement will be made on the main community, and characters will have the opportunity to be healed of the poison.
If you have any questions or concerns, as always, feel free to leave an OOC comment here. Also, Doctor Resarci is available for IC interactions!
-----------------------
Also, on the business side of things, thanks to everyone who checked in for the activity check! Unfortunately, the following characters have not yet checked in. If this is you, you must go to this post and check in or, unfortunately, you will be dropped from the game and need to reapply to rejoin.

IC (but am I doing this right?)
Doctor Resarci, I have a possible solution to the riddle I'd like to test. However, I need to be there too, as part of the solution might be the coin I have. [She holds up the gold coin from the riddle treasure hunt.]
Would you like to meet me at the Neptune statue by the library?

So much for this being a perfect town, huh?

...this stupid riddle. Is it only for the people those idiots made sick to figure out?
no subject
[frowns at that] Why, we would never abandon our fellow residents! We here at the clinic are working tirelessly to solve the riddle to the antidote. [pauses, looking a little sheepish] and we would certainly not reject any help that could be given, from whatever source. The more minds on the mystery, the easier it becomes to solve, yes?
no subject
[ raises an eyebrow. ] Do you not have a stock of possible antidotes at the clinic? Have they been tried? I'd sure hope that only the sick would have to wrack their brains.
Hn. Guess so.

Ah...yes, yes, of course. That is the first thing we did try. [apologetic] With no luck, I'm afraid. But we will solve the riddle soon!
