[The best way to figure out the ups and downs of a puzzling situation is to explore! Right? Luke thinks so, and he's wandering up and down the streets of Luministi Greens East to get an idea of the lay of the land, so to speak, in his new neighborhood. It's weird to think about so he's trying not to; walking felt more familiar, prompting him to leave his bicycle at home.

"Home", rather.

After a while of sorting things out (the layout is nothing complicated, but he wants to sit down with a map anyway and start getting things all noted down in his notebook) he starts fiddling with the CAT again. The video function is pretty useful!]

The food they left out for us was sort of disappointing, wasn't it? I've got something less unimpressive, if anyone wants to hear a puzzle.

[This may be the most surprising thing to happen to him today. He can't even brace himself for the punch, because he wasn't expecting it. Thankfully he doesn't fall over.

He does look a bit...confused. A fraction hurt, physically and otherwise. On top of all the surprise.]

Wha- Why are you mad about it? [There is no place in his mind where a girl gets angry that someone was kind enough to throw away her stuff for her.]

I'm not mad. You're just being ridiculous! Jegus.

You hit me. [Hard. A for real hit. Luke isn't used to people punching him.]

I tapped you! [SHRUG. She is not seeing the problem.]

[Luke's eyes narrow. It takes almost all of his concentration to fight down the urge to hit her back. As good as it would feel, he'd be disappointing the professor, if he ever found out. But she was so obviously angry - punching and shouting like that!

Instead his hands just tighten on the handlebars and he thinks to himself that this might be why her other friend is mad at her.]

Why?

Because! Don't pick up my shit for me! It's so annoying. Always fussing and meddling and nagging. Acting like I'm some dumb flighty broad!

[Now she looks sulky again. And maybe she's projecting. She's nearly forgotten what it was like to have people do things for her. But this only brings up uncomfortable feelings. It's so damn bothersome to have supportive friends--and she shouldn't be happy about it in any way.

She starts walking faster, feeling hot and irritated. If she leaves him behind, then too bad for him!]

Wha... N-No I wasn't! [Luke wears an expression that marries a scowl and confusion.] I just met you, why would I act like that?

But you did!

All I did was toss some rubbish.

[Yes, it was her garbage. On someone else's lawn, probably. The confusion is only climbing as he fails to recognize in any way what is wrong with keeping your neighborhood tidy-

Oh. Wait.]

Do people in your, uhh...your universe, always leave garbage lying around? Is that it?

No! You picked up after me. Frankly, it's insulting! And another thing, it was mine! Mine, mine, miiiiiiiine!!!!!!!!

[She doesn't stomp her feet on the ground, but she's quite close to it. Instead, she quickens her pace even more and doesn't bother to answer his last question.]

[They're going in the same direction, but he can't keep up between the bike and the limp. The best he can do is shake his head a little and go on walking, slowly, down the road.

He may need to stop if there's a bench between him and home.]

[It's a little while later before she notices that he's lagging too far behind. She lets out a huff and turns to look over her shoulder, eyes narrowed in an exasperated glare. Uggggggggh, did she really need to help this guy now? On the one hand, this is a dangerous place, and he seems incredibly weak. Trust a human to be limping already on the second day. He'll need to get stronger if he wants to be ready for whatever they're going to face here. On the other hand, that's just it. He's human, and humans are weaker and inferior to trolls. But that's because they don't necessarily need to be as strong as a troll. You couldn't really blame them for being weak.

Right.

She bites her bottom lip and shifts on her feet, uncertain. Then she nods to herself and walks back to him.]

Well?

Uhm...I'm sorry I threw away your garbage?

No, not that. [A pause.] But you're forgiven, anyway.

Now which one is yours?

[That's probably the weirdest apology he's ever made anyway.]

Oh. It's A1. Right at the very end. [He can see the way she's looking at him.] I'm all right. I just fell off the bike earlier.

Oh, shut up. [She still looks vaguely annoyed, but there's no heat in her words. She continues talking as she circles him, stopping just behind him.] Man, I don't care. Just let go of that thing and hold still.

[The air shifts around them as her butterfly wings emerge. When she flutters them experimentally, sapphire stardust gracefully fall and sprinkle the ground around them.

Without a word of warning, she grabs him by the underarms and takes off.]

What- H-Hey! Whoa!

[THERE IS NO LONGER GROUND UNDER HIS FEET. What is going on? What...what on...good heavens they are flying aren't they?

Flying.

Wow.]

No way...

[Slowly they rise through the air until they're above the houses and the trees. There's not much need, but she likes showing off. And when was the last time she'd done this? Felt the thrill of flying and the joy of being alive? It's been a long, long time.]

Hahahaha! [She grins down at him.] Close your mouth, Luke Human, and remember to breathe.

[He was totally doing the squirm and kick in the beginning, until he figured it out. Now he shuts his mouth as ordered, for just a few seconds before it's gaping at something else.]

You're flying! Without a plane! [Or a car.]

Well, duuuuuuuuh! Wait--what's a plane?

[Too bad the flight is so short. It's only a matter of minutes before she drops him in front of his house. They're not quite on the ground yet, but that's okay, they're close enough. Careful not to fall flat on your butt and thank you for flying Air Vriska.]

[Bit of a hard landing for someone with a limp, but he manages. Turning around and seeing blue butterfly wings is all its own surprise.]

Wow! ...Thanks! That was unbelievable!

[Her smile widens at his excitement.] I know, it's impressive, isn't it! I have lots of special powers and upgrades. That's just how cool I am.

[She twirls to show off her wings.]

They must be real...

...So you're a butterfly?

Nope. Though I'm pretty enough to be one, that's for sure. Right? [She pauses. In her mind, this is his cue to agree.]

[He does take a minute to blush pretty brightly. How do you call a grey, horned, butterfly-girl who punches you pretty, exactly?]

It must be great to be able to just fly any time you want to.
