[Video] S3-1 - First Dream

[Flynn's expression is livid as his video flicks on. He's halfway through a threat, too angry to realize his mistake of turning on the CAT a moment late.]

--hope I never get my hands on whoever is responsible, because they'll need a lot more than a magic flower when I'm done.

[He hesitates a moment, obviously warring with himself on whether it's worth it to say more. A beat later, disgusted, he ends the message.]

You know, I think I might get on board with that. Great idea!

[he nods and smiles] It seems like it'd be the simplest solution.

[she gives him a look at that rather theatrical display--and then realises what he means]

Oh! Oh dear. [she grabs the CAT, shutting it down for a few minutes as she finds a dress in one of the drawers and throws it on. her hair is still a mess, but at least she's presentable now. she turns the CAT back on] Mr Rider? Are you there? I'm on my way to the Mayor's House now. [she means it; she's already headed out the door, though she's still tottering a bit]

[Damnit! Curse her bit fat mouth. But wait. She can still save this.]

Hey! What did we just say about being sensitive to other people's needs???????? This includes cultural sensitivity, you know! Who are you to dictate to me about what you consider general awareness? We come from different places! [She wags a finger at the screen.] Our Heroes of Breath are very important where I'm from. For a number of reasons. Don't be so skeptical!

[And that is the truth, completely.]

[No, too late. She's completely lost him, and the deadpan plus one arched eyebrow say as much as Flynn regards her through the screen.]

Yeah. I'm just going to go out on a limb here... but--

Nah. Let's try another route. In my kingdom? We don't cough on people. So! While I... ah... respect what you're going through, I'm going to pass on your good luck charms and wish you a healthy gesundheit from my home to yours. Sound good?

Hey! He'd not run off and leave us behind. [Well, not without a purpose, and even then he'd come back. This time, though, Jamie's quite aware things are different.]

There was this flash of light just before he vanished, so I'd say more like a spell. Come to think of it, I could have sworn I'd seen something like it before...

[Come to think of it, he likely should have changed as well, but he's been in just as much of a hurry as Sophie was and he's already too far on his way to consider it now -- maybe later when things slow down, he'll see about foraging for clothes.

For now, Flynn offers Sophie a little half wave to welcome her back.]

Still here. [With an unspoken "unfortunately".]

I'll wait for you outside -- I should be about there.

[Laaaaaaaame!]

Okay, yeah, let's drop the act! I know when I've lost.

[She studies him skeptically. A kingdom? This guy?]

I can't see it at all. But I guess some fools get all the luck.

[Flynn's experience with the Doctor is a little more limited, but he'll take Jamie's word for it.]

Seen something like it before, huh?

[Flynn frowns slightly, rubbing the back of his neck.]

In town? Because I'm not gonna lie -- if we have to worry about vanishing on top of everything else, I'm going to find an entirely new level of unhappy to sink to.

[Flynn gives a light shrug, not all that concerned with the skepticism. Though, he's not exactly in charge of the kingdom yet. His in-laws are still alive and well and he imagines Rapunzel can do a fair job without much of his input.]

If we're cutting the act, bright eyes, then it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Really! Highlight of my day.

[He smirks.]

Flynn Rider. And who might you be?

Not exactly. More like what happened the first time I was brought there, when I'd stepped in the fairy ring.

[But maybe it's something different. He's not at all sure.]

Aye, I'd not blame ye. Especially not when ye were back home doing...say, what were ye doing, anyway? You'd not said earlier.

[Flynn lifts an eyebrow. Fairy ring sounds familiar...]

You mean a witches' ring?

[He's not certain what to do if there's a witch roaming about vanishing people, but Flynn's prepared to at least keep a look-out now. As for what he's been up to...

Flynn's expression drops almost straight into a deadpan as he examines his knuckles.]

Oh, you know. Nothing too important. Obviously. Otherwise I wouldn't have ended up here, right? It's not like I was in the middle of my wedding or anything.

[Little bitter. Tiny bit.]

Good. I'll be there soon!

[and, true to her word, she meets him outside the Mayor's house very shortly thereafter. she's panting from her run, but she seems to have worked out her balance issues, at least]

Have you...gone in? Or...seen anything?

Yeah, right. But you saw through my little joke, so I'll give you credit for that.

[She smiles sharply.]

Marquise Spinneret Mindfang.

Some people call them that, aye. But that was back home, not here.

[So there's probably not any witches around vanishing people. Probably. He grimaces visibly as Flynn continues, however.]

They took ye from your own wedding? Aye, I'd not blame ye for wanting to have a few words with them over that. If they'd taken me away from a lassie I loved...

[Well, there'd be more than words in that case.]

Look, we'll figure out some way to get everyone back again. And with luck it'll be like they said and it'll be like you've not left at all.

Soooo, how is a magic flower supposed to be threatening?

[Flynn shakes his head, but lifts his CAT slightly to indicate it. ]

Not yet. I've been trying to work out a way to get Red free.

[Read: Tormenting Ichijou under the half-guise of working out a way to get him free from the labs. ]

[That eyebrow quirks upward again accompanied by a half unsettled expression.]

If it's all the same, I'll stick with bright eyes. The rest...

[He waves a hand uncertainly.]

It's a bit of a mouthful, don't you think?

[That brings Flynn up short.]

Well... The flower could have healed almost anything, but the point was more that I would have...

You know what? It's not important.

Have we met? Flynn Rider.

But flowers don't heal --

[No. No, wait, he's got this.]

Are you a witch, too? Or... some magical creature?

[Oh wait there was a question there.]

Nah, don't think we've met. I'm Willis. Nice to meet you.

Sure, but my eyes are all black. So why "bright eyes"? [What does that even mean!]

[Sophie doesn't pick up on the nickname, but she's immediately concerned] "Red"? Where exactly is this person trapped?

Too?

[Pardon Flynn while he sizes you up, Willis. You aren't what he pictured a witch to look like -- he always secretly assumed they all looked like Gothel.]

Back up, kid. Creature? Do I look like a creature to you?

Look, don't question the nickname -- accept it! Embrace it! Maybe you're just thinking about it too hard, you know?

[And maybe Flynn is just a bit of a brat and doesn't explain himself.]

[Flynn gestures none too helpfully at the mayor's house. He's not exactly certain of where Ichijou is exactly. The labs are a fairly big mystery to him still.]

Ichijou? Red hair, Red? Anyway.

[He's going to give up on that one and move on to being a little more serious.]

In the labs... somewhere. Apparently everything locked down?
