[Nothing much has changed in the interior of Dr. Caligin's office since Nathan gave everyone leave to make their decisions. Nathan is still there waiting by Lab #3. If they are returning from doing whatever around the spacestation, they'll notice that all of the photos on the wall have been removed and stacked neatly on the desk, along with all of Caligin's possessions that had been shoved into a desk drawer. (Of course, if one had never left the office, one would have seen him pulling all of the photos down.)]

If you have made your decision, please let me know now. And, uh, if you haven't for some reason and want to ask me something, I guess you can do that too.

[Sophie sees him going by, but she's not walking quickly enough these days to try to catch him]

Agent Washington!

[it takes him a second to process that someone has spoken to him. he turns and sees her; stopping] Ah, Miss Hatter. You're looking well, all things considered.

And you. [not that she can really tell with him, but she supposes so] Have you decided what you'll do?

[he nods] I don't make the decision lightly, but I'm staying. For the time being, anyway. I'll be able to resume my mission once I get back home and this way, I can make sure with my own eyes that this is truly done.

And people like you will not have to be put through this again.

[Sophie isn't quite sure what to say to that. her expression softens] That's very noble of you.

I would stay, but...well, as I'm sure you can imagine, there are some things that simply can't wait.

[under his breath] Noble, huh...? [in his normal pitch] Just doing my duty. [after all, protecting innocents had been a reason he enlisted all those years ago...]

[looks down at her large stomach, then back up] No. No, they can't.

[she nods] I'll be leaving, in a moment. Take care, Agent Washington. Do you still have the handkerchief?

[she would feel better knowing he still has something to protect him--beyond the armour, of course]

Of course. [he opens a little compartment on his hip, pulling out the handkerchief] I've kept it with me since you gave it to me.

[she's surprised--such an item seems a strange thing to carry in his metal suit. but she smiles] I hope you find it helpful. Good luck.

[lightly, possibly even amused by her surprised expression] It's a protective charm. I'd hope the least it could do is its job. [he places it back into that compartment, closing it]

Good luck to you as well, Miss Hatter. [holds his hand out to her]

[she smiles faintly at that] And hasn't it so far? [she also sincerely hopes it continues to]

[she accepts his hand] Good-bye, Agent Washington.

[he gives her hand a careful squeeze before releasing it] Good-bye and...congratulations. You'll be a good mother.

[he gives her a nod of his head, then turns to walk away]
