[any and all conversations being held on the CATs suddenly cease all at once, and in the next instant, a little alarm begins to sound. none of the townspeople appear fazed by the strange happening, writing if off as yet another malfunction that has plagued the communications systems in town for the past week.

however, appearing only to the residents' CATs is a video transmission featuring someone whose face is obscured in the shadows, but from the timbre of the voice, it's a young man.]

[the transmission cuts out suddenly and is replaced with a picture of a blue screen that simply reads: "Signal Lost." it takes a few moments for that screen to go away, but what--or who--appears next may surprise the residents...]


❧ Plot Details: Whispers From Different Worlds

Welcome to Luministi's Fourth Wall event! As you might have guessed from the above IC portion of this entry, this event will be part of the game's canon and it's all thanks to those malfunctioning CAT devices! However, visiting characters will not appear in the town itself. They will appear in video transmissions alone.

For this entry alone, the vidscreens are still down and most of the CAT functions are down as well with the exception of the video function, enabling residents to communicate with visiting characters, and visitor can also communicate with other visitors as well. Think of it like signals being crossed. And to make things a little easier for everyone, the video transmissions are clear and normal as they would be any other day and don't feature the strange solarised/flipped quirk that they have had for the past week. In any entries made after this one on until the end of the plot, the CATs functions will return to what they were like at the start of the plot.

For those of you new to the game, the CATs, or Communications Audiovisual Transmitters, are personalized communication devices about the size of your palm, and for this day only, visiting characters will have this device. From a video broadcast standpoint, you'll be able to see the the immediate surroundings of the person you're talking to. More information about the CATs can be found on the FAQ page.

In-game time, this event lasts a day, but you can tag for however long you want!

Ah, one more thing! If visiting characters app into the game following this entry's events, memories about what was said and who you spoke to will be able to come to you upon proper entry into the town, but not before then. Characters in-game already will be able to remember their time talking to the visitors and will be able to react to them after the fact.

[shrugs, smirking] You'd be surprised how many are around--when you know where to look.

[nods, jotting down a few of the most important details even though she's still recording] All right, spaceship hiding an eclectic town named Luministi near the Large Magellanic Cloud. I'll see what I find out and let you know. [taps the CAT]

But out of curiosity, any reason the time traveller in town hasn't helped you? Hasn't got a time machine handy, I take it?

[She thinks about that for a moment - good thing she's taken English in school, otherwise that might be a bit lost on her. She ends up nodding.]

I think so. He says it's his name, but it also seems to be his title.

Do you happen to know of him?

[snorts] Oh, I know of him all right! A few times over. [and not always in the right order, at that]

Has he still got that coat, or has he made like Madonna and "reinvented" himself?

[raises an eyebrow] Just brown? Now there's a change.

So, just to make sure we're talking about the same bloke--[though more like to find out what this particular Doctor looks like, not that she's going to say that]--how about you describe the Doctor there? Brown coat, and...?

Oh, and a suit, and runners. And hair that's a bit sticky-uppy- [She gestures to help describe how the Doctor's hair defies gravity.]

[snorts] Yeah, that's him all right. [actually, it's nothing like him, but she knows better than to question it. he said he could change his appearance, so clearly he has done, and there's no reason to complicate things with Fuu by saying so]

So what do you mean his ship's hidden? [she knows Fuu might not know the answer to that--with the Doctor, it's hard to know what's meant by much of anything he says--but she has to ask. it sounds too strange]

Well, I'm afraid that he hasn't told me much about it. But I gather that his ship is simply not where he can get to it. But then, we can't leave town so he can't look for it either.

[Which kind of makes sense. How could you keep a spaceship in a tiny town like Luministi? She is still under the impression that the Tardis is a huge ship like the Enterprise...]

[why is she not surprised that the Doctor has lost track of the TARDIS again? Menzies doesn't realise that Fuu is implying a large ship, however] So either someone on that spaceship's dragged it off somewhere, or he got teleported in with the rest of ya, is that it? Sounds like just the sort of mess he'd be in. [she shakes her head. the Doctor never ceases to amaze her--or fail to amaze her with his consistently bizarre antics, as the case might be]

I'm sorry to hear that he's been in messes before. But at least that means he's good at getting out of them if he's around to talk about it, right?

[scoffs] Now that he's an expert at.

Anyway... [she reaches over to stop the recorder] Anything else you think I should know? 'Cause I'd better get started on my investigation--before the Doctor finds more trouble to mix you lot up in.

Oh, it's not the Doctor's fault. --At least, not that Doctor's.
I think it would be fortunate if you found out who are the bosses of Mayor Caligin and doctor Resarci, though. It's hard to tell at this point but... I think they - whoever they are - have a hand in things.

But no matter what you find out, thank you for trying to help us! [She bows] Every bit of information is valuable.

[amused, almost fondly] It never is.

Right. [makes a note of that] I'll ask around for starters.

[waves a hand] Oh, please. I'm a police officer. And believe it or not, most DIs find there's something enjoyable about investigating crimes.

Anyway, good luck on your spaceship. Oh, and tell the Doctor--no, wait. [pauses to consider this. Web of Time and all that] Give the Doctor my name. If he doesn't recognise it, don't say I know him. Got it? But if he does, tell him not to get in too much trouble for me.
