❧ Whispers From Different Worlds

[any and all conversations being held on the CATs suddenly cease all at once, and in the next instant, a little alarm begins to sound. none of the townspeople appear fazed by the strange happening, writing if off as yet another malfunction that has plagued the communications systems in town for the past week.

however, appearing only to the residents' CATs is a video transmission featuring someone whose face is obscured in the shadows, but from the timbre of the voice, it's a young man.]

Please be patient! We're going to help you, but we need a little more time. Keep an eye out for a message from--!

[the transmission cuts out suddenly and is replaced with a picture of a blue screen that simply reads: "Signal Lost." it takes a few moments for that screen to go away, but what--or who--appears next may surprise the residents...]

❧ Plot Details: Whispers From Different Worlds
Welcome to Luministi's Fourth Wall event! As you might have guessed from the above IC portion of this entry, this event will be part of the game's canon and it's all thanks to those malfunctioning CAT devices! However, visiting characters will not appear in the town itself. They will appear in video transmissions alone.

For this entry alone, the vidscreens are still down and most of the CAT functions are down as well with the exception of the video function, enabling residents to communicate with visiting characters, and visitor can also communicate with other visitors as well. Think of it like signals being crossed. And to make things a little easier for everyone, the video transmissions are clear and normal as they would be any other day and don't feature the strange solarised/flipped quirk that they have had for the past week. In any entries made after this one on until the end of the plot, the CATs functions will return to what they were like at the start of the plot.

For those of you new to the game, the CATs, or Communications Audiovisual Transmitters, are personalized communication devices about the size of your palm, and for this day only, visiting characters will have this device. From a video broadcast standpoint, you'll be able to see the the immediate surroundings of the person you're talking to. More information about the CATs can be found on the FAQ page.

In-game time, this event lasts a day, but you can tag for however long you want!

Ah, one more thing! If visiting characters app into the game following this entry's events, memories about what was said and who you spoke to will be able to come to you upon proper entry into the town, but not before then. Characters in-game already will be able to remember their time talking to the visitors and will be able to react to them after the fact.

So yes! Tag in and threadhop in this entry as much as you like! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave an OOC comment here or PM me.

Hope you all have fun and welcome again~

[John had been turning over the small device in his hand before it began to transmit, only to reflexively tense at the sight projected before him. A fellow Spartan, but they... After Reach...

He steels himself, continuing to look the device over, but is unable to find a way to encrypt anything over the comm, he feels a piece is missing without Cortana's familiar voice in his mind. Of course he is able to function without her, but he made a promise; one that didn't end after he found her the last time. He doesn't intend to be separated from her for very long again. He's lost too many people already.]

This is Spartan 117, identify yourself.

[Didn't you know? He's quite the conversationalist.]

[well, now this is definitely a surprise. the battered armor alone was enough of a tip that this wasn't the normal soldier he runs into back home, but that name... Wash thought he'd been lost with the rest of them.]

Freelancer Agent Washington. Never thought I'd meet you face-to-face, so to speak.

[His head cocks to the side slightly as he takes in that new designation. It's nothing he's heard tell of in his time, but he has been away for a long time. He is, however, used to that sort of a reaction, it makes him question his earlier suspicion that the other man was a Spartan.

He buries the momentary pain that knowledge brings up. It isn't something that will do him any good in this moment. He gets straight to the point.]

Agent Washington, you were addressing someone else before I contacted you. From your reaction it seems that minimal information in similar situations is spotty at best, correct?
vengefulagent: (What in the hell makes you think...)

Let's just say that things never are "open" as much as people claim they are. [yes, he is still annoyed over the fact that he was denied full access to Outpost 17-B despite being told he'd have it]

In this instance, the transmission was cut, but I have a feeling that even if it wasn't, we wouldn't have learned anything more.

But that's not exactly new to someone like yourself, is it?

[identity profile] notestforluck.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
No. [He knows all too well what limitations information can do in a situation. He also knows that the decisions on the spread of information by those in charge can do as well. However, this soldier knows more than he currently does in this case and he would be remiss to disregard an opportunity to learn more.]

What other information can you give me?
vengefulagent: (Finding what I'm looking for)

[personal profile] vengefulagent 2011-06-12 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[where to even begin?]

What sort of information would you like? There's an awful lot going on these days.

[identity profile] notestforluck.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Anything useful. What do you know about the people here, those speaking in the transmission before it was cut? Do you know what they want?
vengefulagent: (Here's the plan)

[personal profile] vengefulagent 2011-06-15 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[even as he speaks, he's tucking details away to keep them out of his general story. he figures the details aren't relevant at this time since Master Chief isn't in the town and therefore isn't in danger of being trapped.] The people here, for the most part, are of little use and often relate information that doesn't aid in one's efforts to leave this town. There are some, like myself, who are new and able to get out under certain circumstances that have yet to arise again, but unfortunately, we don't know what will trigger said circumstances again.

As for the transmission preceding yours, I have no information. No one around here seems to know who that was either.
