[not too long after receiving the picture on his CAT, said device turns on, broadcasting everything, just as the Doctor reaches the northernmost door. he pauses for a moment, reading the sign.]

Wait until I'm called? [he makes a face that says "Not on your life," and barges in--but stops short when he spots the four townspeople waiting by the fireplace] Ohhh, and the entertainment's here already! I'd wondered if I'd see you lot again--well, no, not really. Not two of you, anyway.

Well! It's been fun, but I've got things to do: worlds to see, planets to save--and you lot have kept me here for far too long already.

[he stalks across the vast room until he reaches the door, but frowns when he can't turn the doorknob. a little noise of frustration escapes his lips while he pulls out his sonic screwdriver, the instrument whirring for a moment before he sighs and puts it away] Deadlocked... That would figure.

[he runs a hand through his hair as he walks away from the doors. by now he's noticed his CAT is on] Looks like we can't go in to visit our wonderful mayor. Would anyone care to join me here with the rest of our friends? Certainly won't be a dull time, that's for sure...

[He had promised to apologize, and while he rather lost the chance before, there's no point in not doing so now. So here he is now with a bouquet of rue, held out to Audrey Ardes]

[considering their last encounter, she is rather surprised to see this peace offering from him]

My goodness... [takes the bouquet from him] You have quite the way of apologising to me, Mr. Braxiatel.

[collector]

I'm sorry I couldn't do more, but well. [He indicates their surroundings.] I'm presently of much more limited resources than I'm used to.

[luministimods]

These will do just fine. Thank you, sugar pie. [spares him a small smile]

But I doubt you're here just to apologise, am I right?

[collector]

Actually, I'm not sure if I do have anything else I need. I know this is about Verita's grandfather, I know he's a scientist at a place called Luministi Research Labs, I know Verita moved into this place via a very interesting barrier that Iussus let her through, and I know that this is about bringing back Verita's grandfather, somehow. Am I missing anything?

[luministimods]

[her smile turns wry, cryptic and she bows her head to sniff the flowers--but only does so to hide her mouth's movement] You've only scratched the surface. I want to tell you more, but I can't.

[collector]

Because it would be dangerous for you. What if I forced your hand?

[luministimods]

[Audrey moves to hug Brax, wrapping her arms around him while she whispers:] Then...I'm dead and won't be able to help you. Look what happened to Verita for standing up against Dr. Resarci--and she's Caligin's daughter.

[collector]

[Braxiatel looks completely startled, more by the hug than what she's saying. When he realizes what she's doing, though, he plays his awkwardness all the way through, almost lifting his hands to hug her back but not quite managing it.]

[Quietly] Then where should I go for answers?

[luministimods]

[she rests her head on his shoulder for a moment] I'm still trying to find that out myself. Hopefully you'll get more once Dr. Caligin is ready for you, but please be careful. Dr. Resarci could still have a great hold on him and I don't want any of you to get hurt.

[she takes a step away from him, forcing herself to smile broadly]

[collector]

[Braxiatel clears his throat when she draws away] My people aren't . . . prone to embraces. We express ourselves in different ways. I very rarely know what to do with them. [He inclines his head, and his smile speaks to more than sympathy.] But I appreciate it, Audrey. Thank you.

[luministimods]

You're welcome. [her smile falters a bit, but she keeps it up. in a somewhat playful tone] And consider yourself lucky I didn't jump straight to the kiss. Can't imagine how your people would express themselves then.

[collector]

Most, I suspect, would die of apoplexy.

[luministimods]

[curiously] Would you?

[collector]

[with a slight hint of a smile] I have a little more experience with the outside world than the rest of my kind do.
