❧ Old Familiar Things

[Listen close; on the tail ends of a faint breeze running through the town, one can hear voices. They sound varied, some are just having regular conversations, but others might be full-out arguing and bickering. There might even be the sounds of laughter as showers of coins come out of a chiming machine. All these sounds are new. They are soft at first, but as one walks around town and encounters the strange sights that stand out amongst the usual hodge-podge of buildings, the voices and sounds become louder and clearer. It's almost as if those people are there--but sadly, they are not. Some will find the voices familiar, but others won't.

But there is one thing for certain: they do not belong there.

And neither do the new structures and buildings that have cropped up around town...

There are still no signs of the townspeople, and the Mayor has even gone silent. None of his trademark music accompaniment will cover up those voices this time. However, there is a new noise that only those with the keenest ears may be able to pick up on--and it is not good. Not from the way whatever is making it sounds...overworked and stressed, the mechanical systems ready to break at any given moment.]

Plot Details: Old Familiar Things
Hopefully, you've been managing your food supplies, everyone, or else...well. Things won't be pleasant. (Probably a good thing we have no cannibals in our midst (or do we? Uh oh.)) Perhaps the new distractions around town will hold off thoughts of starvation for a while longer.

Remember those odd buildings and structures seeing around various places in and around town? Well, they are what are giving off the voices, and those voices belong to those in that particular world around the time each person left it. So, walk near the giant windmill, and one will hear the bickerings and complaining of the Blood Gulch guys as they argue over which side sucks more, red or blue. Go to the library, and you just might find that it is definitely not quiet on the second floor, not when everyone is pointing out the sights around an invisible Tokyo.

And there are new structures now as well. That is where you all come in. What sort of object, room, or place from your character's world would you like to see in the town? Does it have a particular meaning to them, either negative or positive? The structure will ping them in some way, but it doesn't have to be anything they've encountered recently. It can be something from their childhood, for example. Everyone has a choice of one thing, and where it's located is also up to you. Keep in mind that if you don't want it in town, it can turn up in the spacestation. There are plenty of offices in the area, for example, where something could take over, or it could sit out in the opening. There is a list of what we have already and where in the Town Features page on the mod journal. Like the other objects and locations already in existence, these too will come with a bit of audio as well.

And that...is not all. (Didn't think I'd let you off so easily, did you~?) In fact, there are two more things. When your character is near the object/location that "belongs" to them, they'll feel a surge of euphoria--even if that location happens to drive them insane or upset them in some way. Visit someone else's and yeah, you won't feel that way.

Oh, and that other? Is that very faint overworked, mechanical sound that can be heard everywhere--and that means both in the town and out on the spacestation. It's a new sound, but for now, think of it like the background noise someone might hear when hearing the fridge run; you won't really notice it after five minutes. However, it does signal something...kinda bad. Because yeah, the food situation has improved either and now? There isn't any hot water. Well. Unless you boil it. The lights and such still seem to be functional, so there is that! But no hot water for anyone.

Okay, I lied, there is one more point of interest in the form of someone who has returned to Luministi, albeit very reluctantly. Our old friend, Proctor, is now back around the spacestation, but because of his mode of transportation and the ordeal he's been through recently (trust me, he'll definitely be talking about it), he won't be up for talking for a bit. (He can't exactly remember it in detail anyway at the moment, and neither can his traveling companions, Jamie and Xion.) But when he is back in action, I'll post again so people can have a chance to speak with him.

    ----------------------------------

And on the business end of things, we do have an ad in the latest ATP post if anyone wants to hunt around! Oh, and you might notice a little blurb in there about a certain event at the end of the month~ We are holding a 4th wall event on June 30th! Like our previous ones, any CR made there will be game canon, so any newcomers coming in from the 4th wall will have established game CR to get back into once they officially arrive in town. I'll talk more about it once we get to the end of the month, and I'll continue to remind you all as we go. I'm definitely looking forward to it!

I believe that is it. So! Comment here with the object/location from your character's world so I can add it to the master list (and those from the old guard, remember I had said to keep something in mind? Now is the time!) If you need any help or advice, I'd be more than willing to help you out! That goes for any other questions you may have!

Have fun with the blasts from your home worlds, guys~

EDIT: All new places have been added to the list! Any new items have a little star next to them.

After careful consideration... would it be okay for Vriska's object to be her ancestor's diary in some sort of old-fashioned treasure chest? As for location ummm... how about hidden here in the botanical gardens!

I might leave it open to some other character finding it first because that sounds fun and it's an easy way for more CR. Vriska and Mindfang (the ancestor in question) write quite similarly. The 8s and ink color will be telltale enough that it's related to Vriska, I think. So if anyone is interested, please comment here (or PM/IM me)! :)

ALSO LOL....

❧ As of 05/19/12, the passageway from the Mayor's house to the observation deck and spacestation/lab proper has been sealed shut and cannot be opened using anyone's powers/tools. However, people can still visit the Mayor's house and wander around all they like.

SO THE MAYOR'S NOT THERE RIGHT.... DOES THIS MEAN WE CAN.... SET UP HQ THERE OR SOMETHING LMFSKNJDJLS IS THIS A THING WE CAN DO....

What about the possibility of characters who can hunt for the group? :3c

Oops, forgot to ask about something.

In addition to the human residents, Luministi is home to your standard woodland/suburban dwelling animals, such as squirrels, chipmunks, mice, rabbits, deer, frogs, toads, and the occasional stray cat or dog, but we ask that new citizens refrain from capturing them.

Since the situation has changed, can the characters now hunt the deers and things? :O

Yeah, the Mayor is literally never there... ^^; So people can definitely set up shop there in his house or in the town hall itself if they'd like!

As for the animals, of course you can hunt them! There might not be as many now, but sure~

Also, since I almost forgot to mention, it's totally cool for the diary to turn up like it does in the gardens!

I'm going to merge a bunch of descriptions and some later changes into one description >.>

It's a small room with heavy whitewashed beams in the ceiling. Hung from some of the beams are bundles of herbs, onions, and roots. There is a workbench on one side of the room, covered with items like leather books and crooked bottles. The workbench has tall stools beneath it There's a sink beside the workbench, filled with buckets with fresh flowers and some odd experimental flowers--as well as an old, brown human skull. There's a small alcove in the corner with more tubs of plants in it.

On one side of the room is an empty fireplace, and placed in front of it is a chair with a cushion on it. Another wall has a stairway with an arched space below it, hung with shells and pictures and other decorations. The cubbyhole itself has a few rugs under it, as well as a folding bed with a straw mattress.

The room has five low, black doors. Four of them aren't real, however; they're just painted walls. But the door through which you enter the room has a square wooden knob set into the lintel above it with a dab of paint on each of its four sides: yellow, purple, orange, and black. Near the door, a guitar leans against the wall in one corner. There is a window set into the same wall as the door, which looks out upon a quaint but bustling town called Market Chipping.

Anyone who enters this room will hear the ghost of voices - the cracked and spitting voice of Calcifer, the fire demon, who seems to be going on about a contract. The voice of Howl, a Welshman who sometimes complains about Sophie, other times speaks of being in mourning, and occasionally mentions a Witch and a curse. There is also the voice of Michael, a boy of 15, eager but thoughtful as he struggles with spells. And sometimes, though the items themselves don't move, there's the sound of out-of-tune guitar twangings and the yattering of teeth from the human skull.

I think I will go with that, after all. ♥ I've been thinking of the Mana Tree as when it was whole, but it might be interesting as after being attacked, too.

Yeah, I think that sounds like a plan! Does somewhere in the gardens work?
