[Croix is back in his little townhouse, and clearly annoyed by this fact. He even sighs before he actually speaks for the CAT.]

If I knew I would only have that long back home, I don't think I would have bothered.

[Annoyed, but... well, apparently not surprised. He shakes his head.]

Who else is here? Maybe we should talk. [slight hesitation] Is anyone going to go see the dedication celebration?

That's a good point. We should still be careful, though.

Well, we're already trapped here, so I don't see why they would want to throw a celebration to contain us somewhere else... but there could be something else going on, and the celebration could be a cover for it.

[He pauses.] I probably sound paranoid or something, but I was here before. Nothing in this place is what it seems to be.

[he nods, tucking his hands into his sash] We don't know what whoever's around this time has in mind, after all.

[he does notice a slight change in his tone. perhaps Wash has even noticed this during his time on a mission with Croix.

however, because this is Wash, he is going to keep that to himself for a while and then say something about it when he thinks Croix is ready.]

[he chuckles faintly, thinking about jinxes.] Or you, as well. Hopefully going through your front door doesn't turn you out on the lake.

I'll bet! I don't expect to get pulled out of my world only to be placed in some inanely boring and normal place. That's just dumb and only tasteless imbeciles would do something like that.

So you think maybe something big is going on and they're trying to distract us with this celebration deal?

[That gets him to crack half of a smile.]

Well, we're about to find out. I have a celebration to go to, after all.

[He nods.] It could be anything. And actually, we never did find Resarci, which is worrying as well.

Let me know how that goes. With any luck, there won't be any pies this time. [oh yes, he remembers cleaning pie residue off his armor.]

Well, they're pretty tasteless, at least.

I think it's possible, but I couldn't say for sure. Those sundials he mentioned - what the celebration is for... we destroyed those last time. The fact that they're honoring us by dedicating the reconstructed ones to us... It seems pretty suspicious to me.

I'll be going, though. Will I see you there, Miss...?

Or soda water, or banana peels. [He winces a bit.]

Yeah. If he came back, and tried to claim control…

…do you have any idea if he could do that?

It's possible. [He shakes his head.] I'm sorry, Hawk. I wish I had better answers for everyone. Agent Washington and I found a few leads, but in the end we were just too late.

[desertdaggers]

[He presses his lips together for a few moments, looking away, then shakes his head, trying to smile.] I'm sure you did all you could, though. That's… I'm sorry to hear that. What kind of things did you find, though?

[grandbellknight]

We found out he had storage space, and that it was recently accessed. But.. by the time we got to it, everything important was already gone and the rest was to be destroyed. The only thing we salvaged from the blast site was a prototype CAT, but it doesn’t work. [He shakes his head.] So... a few more questions, and not enough answers.

[desertdaggers]

Damn. [He purses his lips.] That's… what a pain. And- I suppose whoever was in charge of making sure everything got destroyed just had those orders, did they?

So it's just… [he gestures at his own CAT] …the bits and pieces that make it up physically?

[grandbellknight]

Yeah, it's definitely a pain... [Sigh.]

It is. [he nods.] There are a few very minor differences, but it's definitely still a CAT. I guess they changed some things before they gave them to us.

Well, you never know until you ask, right? I'm no scientist, but I'm pretty good at agricultural stuff.

Nice to meet you too. Just, you know, wish it was under better circumstances.

[nods] Probably… probably hard to tell what changes they made, too.

I’m not even good at that, so you’d be far more helpful there. [He smiles, just a bit.]

Yeah. That’s a common theme for meetings here. But it will be okay - we will get home. For good this time. [Have a single, firm, determined nod.]

Before, they were what kept up the barrier between the town and the labs, and the door to get home was supposed to be in the labs. Of course, it ended up being a little more difficult than that. [Bit of a pause... and then a small sigh.] It’s a long story. If you have time, I could tell you face to face instead of over this device.

Okay, Miss Vriska. Then I guess I’ll see you there after all.

Not without knowing exactly what all of the components do for sure, yeah. It also doesn’t help that it doesn’t work at all, so we wouldn’t even know if it operates similarly.

I kind of lived on a farm back home. It'd be pretty bad if I sucked at keeping our crops and livestock healthy.

[He grins, though it's much brighter this time.] Definitely.

Yeah. If one of us could work out how to make it work… the Doctor, maybe. But I haven't seen much of him, and- well. If it's on the wrong side…
