So, uh... I don't know if you guys remember our adventure down memory lane, but I have to say it wasn't exactly fun. Thanks for dealing with me back then, guys. I know I wasn't exactly the most talkative person around. [being purposefully vague! Observers can note that she's calmly eating lunch in what seems to be a pretty deserted place otherwise. ... Not that Cissie minds; it just gives her more privacy for this transmission.]

Also, while we're at it... Is anyone good at these puzzle games? All the doors I've encountered today are really fond of playing Sphinx with me. I'm okay at them, but I think even I'll have to travel down to the library if I want to get around town like a normal person.

... Not that anything "normal" ever happens around here.

[smiles at Cissie] I'm Sara, and I've only recently arrived. Could you explain what you meant about "memory lane"?

It's the one constant you can depend on.

Nice to meet you, Miss Sara. [returns that smile!] I'm Cissie. Fortunately... you just missed the grand "everyone lost her memories" chaos. I was one of them, and it probably wasn't pretty to watch.

But why would anyone stay in a town that's so inhospitable?

It's good to meet you, Cissie. [frowns] But that sounds serious! I haven't heard a thing about it. What happened?

Because we can't leave. [sighs, twirling a french fry in the air] You haven't tried yet?

Well... everyone lost their memories. Some lost more than others, but overall... it was chaos because no one remembered this place-- or each other. Thankfully, some people wrote diaries of what happened and relied on their notes. Still, be glad you missed the insanity.

[frowns; she doesn't like the idea of being trapped] No, but I've spoken to people who have mentioned going home to their families. [and the more she hears from the new residents, the more she's starting to put things together] There are two different groups of people who live here, aren't there?

Oh my! I suppose under the circumstances, I shouldn't be surprised I didn't know. But let me ask you, Cissie, was it only your group who lost their memories?

Bingo. There's the people who've lived here for forever... and then there's us, the new residents. We're not allowed to leave. You're welcome to try, but they've magicked it so that it's an endless loop.

... Yeah, actually, it was. [curiouser and curiouser!]

I thought it might be. [her expression is very severe now, that friendly smile of greeting long gone] But why would they do that? Do you know why they brought you here?

[Erk, the questions... Cissie's going to filter this simply because she's not sure if the old residents can see these transmissions or not.]

From what I understand, they brought us here because "we volunteered to come." Supposedly we filled out an application and everything. It's part of some new program they're trying out.

Of course, some people never did like the idea of us coming here. So there were two factions: those who liked us and those who didn't. The ones who don't like us - I assume - are probably the ones behind these troublesome schemes... and the ones who do were probably the ones giving us clues.

I'm afraid a lot of this is conjecture, and I don't have all the answers. You might be better off asking Fuu next time you see her.

Ahh, yes, I met her. But it seems she wouldn't have had all her memories at the time...

Maybe one thing we need to find out is why this faction who "likes us" would have brought you here. That could be helpful in finding a way to leave.

By now, everyone's regained their memories. And Fuu, ah... she was smart enough to keep detailed records of everything. Makes me wish I'd kept a diary.

... That's a good idea. I haven't asked around yet, but I'll be sure to do so now if I can.

[a bit of warmth slips back into her tone] You could always start now.

True! I think... once these doors stop being bothersome, I'll go out and buy a diary.

But of course, Miss Sara! I'll be sure to tell you as soon as something juicy comes up.

I might just have to do the same! [it's an amusing thought, after more than a thousand years of relying on her memory. even moreso after more than a thousand years of having no hands!]

[The sharp-eyed observer might notice that Fuu's hair seems considerably flatter than previously.]

I'm not too bad at these games normally, but these questions... Some of them seemed to be literally out of this world.
I'm stocking up on groceries so that I don't have to go through many doors in the next while. But I don't know what I'll do if I get a really tough question to get into the library on Monday for work!

Maybe they're pulling puzzles from different worlds too. It... really wouldn't surprise me at this point.

Hmm... you wanna stick together? Two heads are always better than one, and unlike you, I don't really have a job here. [mainly because she never bothered.]

Oh! Like go together to the Library on Monday? That might be helpful! ...I wonder if the door would let two of us in for the price of one question.

I have no idea, but it's worth a shot! And even if it's not, at least we can say we tried.

Good? Well, I'd like to think I'm more than good at them. [but he does have a small patch of synthetic hair on the back of his head that he hasn't noticed yet. oops] Even though I think the door to the tea house was very wrong in asking me what the theory of relativity was. It's not my fault if Einstein got it wrong.

Really now! [she grins, playing with strands of yarn hair--- seems Cissie was right when she said she was "okay" at puzzles] I don't think anyone can blame you, but... Einstein was wrong? So much for doing well in physics class.

Einstein, Hawking, so many of them. But that's the problem with theoretical astrophysics; there's a good chance someone will come along and prove you wrong. [and he's been that someone]

But you won't have to worry about it being wrong in your time, I don't think. In fact, if you do get a question about it, you could easily tell the door that E=mc^2, and you'd be golden!

But isn't that kind of a good thing? The further people progress in science, the more they know about their world. [Her friend Bart seemed to act like that, anyway! Being from the 31st century did wonders for a science education.]

Oh? That's a relief. ... But does that mean you're from my future, then?

Of course it is! The more humans continue to learn and grow, the sooner they'll go out into space to learn what's out there in the universe!

Ah...[pauses ever so slightly before he speaks] now, you see, I travel around a lot, so I'm not entirely sure.

Now that... isn't exactly a positive thing. Intergalactic relations are really complicated. [makes a face] That, and they're thankfully horrible at baseball.

... Oh. So "advanced tech" doesn't mean "future?"

Oh, you're telling me... [he makes a face]

No. It's a matter of perspective, actually. You see, other planets in the universe developed far, far sooner than the people of Earth did. They basically have a headstart.

If it is something you don't know, feel free to call a lifeline, so to speak. I think it's important that you do.

Thank you, Mr. Brax! I think I might have to call in the favor pretty soon... some of these questions include stuff I've never heard of.

One of the unfortunate side-effects of the pool of questions including multiple universes.

So I'm realizing. Some of these questions makes me wish I'd actually read fantasy books before coming here.

"What do you see in the mirror of erised" and "Name the seven bells wielded by a necromancer of the Old Kingdom"? If we're very lucky, the questions will at least be from the worlds represented here.

Socks! I've at least read Harry Potter, but I don't know the last one at all...

[sighs] I'm at least knowledgeable on superhero questions, so go ahead and field those to me.

Superheroes? How interesting. I think I've only heard of those existing in---in, well, somewhere not very easily accessed.

Really? In my world, they're incredibly commonplace. You can't go very far without hearing what Batman or Superman did last week.

The masked vigilante is a much rarer phenomenon in my world. Though there are a handful of vigilantes who don't wear masks.

Not completely sure, but it's incredibly bothersome.

Well, you're supposed to give the correct answer. Sometimes, the questions're hard, but they're not totally impossible... yet.
