[Sophie's small, human body succumbed to the fog very quickly, and she has just woken up very confused indeed. she's found the CAT in her pocket and is pushing buttons on it, which has resulted in an accidental transmission as she continues to fiddle with it]
What is this? Some sort of charm? Is that why I've changed back? [holds the CAT up near her face, as though asking it her questions] But why, if you changed me back, would you take my pincushion? "Good hands" indeed! [hmphs]
[sighs and stops abusing the CAT for the moment, keeping it in her hand as she turns to take a better look around the room--the living room of her own townhome]
But where am I? This certainly isn't Howl's castle! It doesn't even look like any of the locations outside. Did the door get turned black-down somehow and send me out there? Or could this be Calcifer's doing? [to the CAT again] Do you know? [frowns as she looks down, however. strands of her hair have fallen into her face, and she brushes them back in annoyance] Gracious! It's strange to have my hair back again. But...it is such a relief. [pauses for a moment, patting at her face as though she doesn't expect it to feel as it does. she smiles, sighing, relieved] Yes, very much a relief. Though I wonder what broke the spell. And why take my pincushion? That sounds more like Howl's doing than Calcifer's, but he should know that I'll have to clean if I can't sew!
Once I've found where I am... Calcifer! Calcifer, are you here?

[calls out to passing villager] Hey, excuse me, we just got here and it looks like someone's stolen something from our houses. Any idea who we should see about that?
[the villager tells him that he ought to go and see the sheriff]

[to the villager] So how long've you been living here?
[the villager replies that he's been here his whole life]
[to Sophie, whispering] You see my point?

Do you get many new arrivals here?
[the response explains that they hadn't until recently--the mayor has a great new program encouraging new people to move here]

[the villager warns Arthur that he's often busy]
What do you think, Sophie? Sheriff or mayor?
no subject
Hmm... If whoever has trapped us here has stolen our things, then I doubt the sheriff could do much to help us. The mayor is more likely to be in charge of what's happening, so perhaps we should see him first.

[starts to make his way to the town hall]
This is what happens, you see, when people get stuck in a dream for too long. They start to believe it's reality. Even the most impossible things...
[he lets that one hang in the air]

I probably ought to tell you... you asked what I did, earlier? I'm an extractor. I go into people's dreams and find out their secrets. For money.

[but she stops walking at that, turning to him in confusion] You...go into the dreams of other people?
no subject
The reason I'm telling you this is so you don't think I'm just some random madman. I know how dreams work. And I'm willing to bet that this is one.

[considers for a minute more] I suppose it's because I'm the eldest of three. I really shouldn't have tried to seek my fortune. But I do hope I'm not in a dream. If that's the case, the spell might not be broken after all...
