[Welp, the CAT strikes again! It's dropped to the ground and turned itself on while Natsuo is in the middle of a rather vicious fight with a group of the shuffling undead. Lucky viewers, you get to see one of them cut into gorey, fleshy ribbons by seemingly nothing other than the wind itself, though Natsuo's satisfied little smirk would easily give away that he's the one responsible.

Another one tries, absolutely oblivious to the demise of the pile of former-zombie-goo next to him. It does manage to get a swipe in on the kid, tearing a nice hole right in the middle of his shirt. Natsuo jumps backwards, putting distance between them, and then counters with another spell, muttering the appropriate words under his breath. This zombie's fate? Crushed under invisible weight, smashed as though it were caught in some sort of trash compactor that... isn't really there. With that, the commotion dies, momentarily...

And then he actually spots the little device on the ground.] Ah! It's on! [He bends down to pick it up, just smiling, like this is another day in the neighborhood...]

I got separated. It's okay though, I can fight. [frown] But I wish Youji were here. [He glances up at the five other zombies steadily headed in his direction.] This is stupid. They're not hard to beat, they're just annoying. Hey, does anyone know what kind of zombies they're like? I've seen different ones in different movies. Can these feel pain? That would be more fun.

[He glances back up again.] Mm. ... I need to go. Okay?

[They're getting closer to him... one of them breaks into a rush, and grabs the front of Natsuo's shirt just as the kid cuts off the feed.]

[About two minutes pass before the video feed turns back on. Natsuo's standing alone this time. He's got a few scratches here and there, but you know, no big deal. He doesn't seem at all bothered by this. Well, okay, maybe he's a little tired - just a little! and that's all! really! - but that's about it.

... Well, that and the chunk that's missing from his right ear, in a rather bloody fashion. Which he doesn't seem to notice. At all.

He gives the camera his trademark little creepy smile.] They're gone for now. I took care of them. [Firm nod!]

But hey! Where is everyone else? Fighting alone is boring.

((OoC: Why no, Natsuo has no idea he's been bitten, even though part of his ear is gone. >.o And why yes, if you're perceptive, you might notice that that's not just fatigue from fighting... :/ Feel free to point this out to him.))

[Happily taking advantage of the systems having been reinstated, the Wingly gorged herself on loads of delicious food at home and swiftly took a shower. A girl's gotta keep herself gorgeous after all, and that's hard if she stinks!]

Hmm... I wonder what happened to that man that got attacked... [Thinking back on the day before caused a furrow to find itself on her brow as she toweled dry and slinked back into her usual dancer's garb - freshly cleaned. As she just finished covering the most important bits, her CAT began to broadcast a fellow resident.]

AUGH! Don't you little creatures know a thing about a woman's PRIVACY?! [Cue flailing AND an attempt to quickly fasten her skirt and bows and everything together. It seems the one being broadcast is not a familiar face, but it's not him that catches her attention.]

Whoa... WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS?! [She runs for her hammer in the other room and swings at one of the creatures being broadcast by the CAT; thankfully it's just a whozza-ma-gran.] Phew! That was close! But wait, that means those things really exist wherever this guy is!

[She finishes suiting up, and quickly grabs her hammer in one hand, the CAT in the other, determined to find and help this guy as he's starting to become overwhelmed. She arrives just as he finishes, entering on his final line.]

Whoever said you had to fight alone, silly?! [She proudly shows off her hammer by bringing it to rest across her shoulders.] Meru here! At. Your. Service! You wouldn't be so tired if you had waited for me or someone else to show up, y'know!

[She looks him over up and down, before her eyes widen a bit at the part of his ear that has mysteriously gone missing.] Saaaay... do your ears always look like that? Maybe we should get you to the clinic. I think it's operable now!

[She puts on a cheerful grin, hoping not to worry him, as it seems he hadn't yet noticed this particular wound.] If not, I know a little first aid myself!

((OoC: Feel free to let Natsuo explain to Meru how zombies work - as right now she only sees them as monsters and has no idea what this bite means for her new friend.))

Ah? [He turns to look at whoever's calling to him - a chick, in blue, with pale hair and... is that a gigantic hammer? That's awesome! Natsuo brightens, already excited.] It's hard to wait when they're pulling at you, you know. But you're here now. I'm Natsuo. Let's have some fun!

My ears? [He frowns, figuring she's talking about the fact that he has cat-like ears, since apparently that's a weird thing to everyone else in this place.] Boo! Not you too! Of course they look like this! I'm still a k-- [But when said ears twitch, and a tiny blood spatter gets flicked to the ground, he pauses. He reaches up to feel... yep. That's a chunk out of his ear. How in the hell did this happen--

Oh.

He wilts, but just a little.] Ah. No. I guess they... bit me. [He forces a smile.] I don't feel any pain, so I didn't notice.

Hey, Meru, what do you know about zombies? You know what happens if they bite you, right?

[She smiles happily; he seems impressed with her hammer and nothing could make her giddier (except maybe if someone complimented her good looks or great dancing skills). She perks up and stands on her tiptoes to get a closer look at his ears. They're cute and remind her of a wildcat's.] I like your ears! It's such a shame that one of them got you there.

[She smiles brighter, though - reassuringly - and gives a small one-toed twirl.] But now they've got character! And you can't feel any pain?!

[Awe and wide-eyes take over her features as she looks him up and down, imagining what that would be like.] We still need to get you cleaned up though! Come on, to the clinic!

[She grabs his wrist with one hand, heaves her mallet over her shoulder with the other, and tries to start walking with determination in the direction she believes to be the health facility. The area seems pretty devoid of those monsters now; Natsuo sure did a number on their...ah...numbers. Before moving, though, she looks back at him, eyebrow quirked, at his questions.] Zombies? Is that what these creatures are called? They look a lot like Humans, but they're really frightening, ain't they?!

[Her face falls a little at his final question, and her grip on his wrist loosens a bit; she slowly turns to face him. Something in his tone... Her brows furrow and she averts her eyes, not liking the sudden tension she's feeling in her gut.] Well, you bleed, obviously. And I'm sure it'd hurt someone who could feel pain...

[He tries to take a step back when she grabs his wrist, but she gets her grip on him anyway. The mood change doesn't help much... He looks at the ground too.]

Yes. They're called zombies, and they're pretty bad. They were humans once, but they died. Now they're back from the dead, but they're monsters. Not human anymore. Or... something like that, I guess it depends. There are a bunch of different kinds of zombies so it's weird to say. And they're not supposed to be real! But this town is stupid like that.

And anyway, if a zombie bites you, you eventually turn into one of them. [He nods at... uh... the zombiegoopiles. As if that demonstrates his point. Sort of. Kind of.] I don't know how long it takes. But I guess I'm gonna know soon, huh?

[He gives a dramatized sigh~... but then he looks to her again. Though he's serious, he does give her a small smile.]

Meru? I think you're cool. But I don't really want to be one of those stupid things. They're brainless and not at all graceful and I hate them. [He wrinkles his nose.] So, hey, can you kill me? I already told you, I don't feel any pain, so that's okay. And death isn't permanent here! I'll come back just fine tomorrow!

[This child... Seriously.]

Wait... these things were Humans once?! [Eyes wide, she takes a look around at the carnage, a sick feeling in her gut. Suddenly she's not as keen to fight them. But Natsuo continues and she finds herself reassured.]

Oh, monsters now then? That's really sad, but it's actually better for us to put them out of their misery then, eh? [A big grin that reaches her eyes spreads as she rocks forward onto her tiptoes and then back down. But at his next statement, her face falls. Her grip on both his wrist and her hammer loosen so much that both find themselves falling out of her hands.]

Wait...wh-what? But, Natsuo! That means...! [She moves one foot backwards, shaking her head vigorously, as though it will knock the words she just heard from out of her brain - as though it will make them false.]

I-I... [Her shoulders slump for a moment, but she keeps listening; eyes averted, she bends to pick up her maul - taking longer than needed. Her shoulders shake a little before she composes herself. When she brings herself back into a standing position, heaving her hammer across her shoulders once more, her grin is back. It doesn't reach her eyes.]

Anything for a friend! I don't want you to have to suffer through being one of those...things, either! [She takes in a shaky breath and tries to cover it with a small laugh, doing her best to bolster herself and remain peppy.] Just let me know when you're ready, eh?

Mm! [A firm nod! .... But then he hesitates, thinking about it a little. While he's somewhat aware of exactly what this means for him - you know, the whole dying thing? - he's still a kid. A very immature kid. With the mentality that death isn't permanent here and therefore not as important.

So while he's still a bit put-off by it all, he's also completely sure that everything will be okay. So have another smile, Meru - this is the smile of a kid who only sort of understands the gravity of this whole situation... but he's confident nonetheless.]

When I come back, Meru, let's fight these monsters off together. Like you said - put them out of their misery. Okay? [His smile changes, as he's honestly excited by the prospect of having someone to fight alongside again, once he comes back.] We'll be a good team!

[A deep breath, and then--] Natsuo's ready.

[She does her best to hide the shaking of her hands as they grip her mallet, the wavering of her smile as she nods enthusiastically at his words. She doesn't understand this town, but he keeps reassuring her that he'll be back... so she should trust him and help him, right?] Yeah! We'll be the greatest monster-bashing team ever!! They'll never stand a chance against us!

[Her voice is a little higher-pitched than normal; she hopes he doesn't notice. They just met after all. She twirls gracefully and (what she hopes appears to be) excitedly. She has never killed anything but a monster before. But she made a promise.] Y-you sure?

[Damn, that small stutter in her voice almost betrays her, but she tries to recover - her lips curl into more of a smirk than a smile - it helps hide the shaking.] 'Cause, you know, this would be an awful time for you to start feeling pain! My hammer sure can give quite the beating!

[She laughs, almost genuinely, averting her eyes from her new friend, trying to picture him in her mind as something else entirely.] If that's the case, though, I'm not going to hold back! I'm gonna make it quick so we can get to fighting these things faster, okay?!

[She holds her hammer aggressively towards Natsuo, her eyes focusing on the piles of zombie-goo just beyond him so she doesn't have to look. It's now or never...if she keeps stalling, she'll never pluck up the courage to go through with it. Taking a deep breath, she twirls lithely and lunges forward to make her first strike.] HAMMER SPIN!!

[He nods, encouraging, every time she mentions them fighting together.]

It doesn't wear off. Ever. I won't feel anything. [His smile falters a little... but then he kicks it up into a full-on smirk.] Now come on! Just do it already!

[And when that hammer comes at him, it's all he can do not to reflexively jump out of the way or throw up a barrier. He takes the hit, and then waits for the next. He clearly wasn't kidding about not feeling any pain - he's not showing any signs of having felt the weight of that hammer connecting. But man, he sure is dizzy now!

This'll be fine. He's glad she's the one who came - this will work just right! Sure, he's a little bit scared, but he's not gonna show that. He's just ready to get this over with.]

((OOC: Of course! I was glad to thread with you and make this plot bunny come to life. It was fun, and there were definitely the feels. I got really shaken up just writing out Meru's bit!

I definitely think that Meru and Natsuo have a good dynamic, and I really do like the idea of them fighting together as a team. Will he wake up tomorrow in his townhome, or the clinic? 'Cause she's probably going to come banging on his door... ~~worried sick~~ Getting him up to fight with her.))

((OoC: He'll be in his townhouse the next day, right as rain. o/ She can totally go beat on his door until he answers, and then they can go kick some zombie ass! ♥))

[Sophie missed the original transmission--she was a bit busy--but she does see Natsuo after the fight. she stares at him in shock and fairly snaps:] Natsuo! You certainly shouldn't be fighting alone! Where are you? You need to get to the clinic!

Sophie! [His smile is bright! And then she starts fussing, so he just wrinkles his nose instead.] I'm fine. The only bad thing about being alone is it's boring. And why go to the clinic for a scratch? [He holds up his arm and examines it.]

[she stares at him] What? Natsuo, your ear! You're hurt!

Huh? [He legitimately has no idea. Hooray for lack of pain...? So he reaches up to his good ear first, notes that it's fine, runs his fingers over the other... yeah. Not so fine. And when he looks at his hand, yep, that's blood.]

Ah. ... [He shakes his head.] Mm. It's okay, Sophie. I'm fine. It can be fixed later when I can make it back. Okay?

[Though, he's starting to wonder - was the edge of that wound in the shape of a bite...?]

Later? [Sophie glares at him--the sort of glare that usually makes Howl start slithering out immediately] You are going to get to safety right now and find help! Where are you? Perhaps I could--oh, bother! One moment!

[she turns toward something that's not visible from the CAT and starts saying, urgently and very firmly:] We're not here. You can't find us. Turn around. Go away!

[He has never, ever seen that glare before! And he does go a little wide-eyed at first, but considering after the shock wears off, his first instinct is to snicker? Well... he's busy trying to not do that because he would probably get an earful. And as amusing as that would be, he's... a little worried about other things now. So he looks away from her, coughs into his hand and bites his lip until she's done with her little zombie problem. Then, he looks back up.]

Ah, Sophie? Don't come here. Okay? I'll get help soon. I think someone's coming! A real someone, not a stupid monster someone.

[Monster... He remembers the movies, of course. And what happens when one of them bites someone... Mmm. Welp. What to do about this...]

[oh, Sophie doesn't like that tone. she turns back to him, worried. but having just seen her own situation, she knows she won't be able to get to him even though she wants to--not to mention he seems disinclined to say where exactly he is]

Are you certain? Then go that way, quick as you can. And be careful, Natsuo!

[it doesn't feel like enough, but it's the best advice she can think of to offer]

[Yep, disinclined. You stay right where you are, Sophie. You don’t need to see this. He gives her a firm nod, and then forces a little grin for her.]

And then I’ll come find Sophie and we can fight them off together! Are you going to keep worrying? Because you shouldn’t. They can’t beat me.

[Which means whoever it is that’s coming, he’ll have to get them to... Yes. Okay. This will work. Natsuo has a plan now.]

[she can't quite believe that smile, but there doesn't seem to be anything more that she can do, so she nods] I'm in the Malt Shop. And I'm certain you can fight them. But get help now, and I'll see you soon.

[or so she really, really hopes]

[Nod!] Mm! Later, Sophie.

[And before his smile drops, he clicks the feed off. Sorry Sophie! He just doesn't want you fussing at him for what he's about to ask for.]

[she meant to get to this sooner, actually, but obviously something came up. she knows what exactly has transpired here and when she gets through the comments, well.]

[His bitten ear twitches a bit, and it makes Natsuo cringe a little. Yeah, he knows his number's up... ]

[a frown, although unseen, at that. she doesn't even know how natsuo is dealing with this.]

It usually is nice. But... it’s meant trouble before. Soubi almost froze us to death once. We didn’t know it was really that cold.

[He looks at the drawing... and he smiles, and laughs a bit.] It’s perfect! Terezi and Natsuo! And Resarci’s dead body hanging prone, just like you said! I like it. I’m definitely going to save it.
